Back Pain/Back Ache

Reverb  said about 5 years ago  or at  9:43AM on Friday, January 18 2008 in stupidity

Ever played a hard at a gig that you can hardly walk the next day?

My back is all tight and painful... just... ouch.

kandos  said about 5 years ago:

i don't know how to play the hard.

kandos  said about 5 years ago:

BADALEX  said about 3 years ago:

Massage. Hot bath. Herbal patches. Then start working on it more long term.

red menace  said about 3 years ago:

OK, I've been taking voltaren rapid (25mg) when I have pain episodes caused by my spinal/nerve condition. It's so far worked really well in muting the pain when it appears without making me drowsy or wonky. Shit's been good for several months now, so I take it only rarely these days, however...

I'm in the middle of the worst pain I've had in several years (thanks to the compounding effect of a bad hostel bed, hours of walking for days on end and then the cruelty of a long-haul flight in Economy). Voltaren isn't doing what it should and I'm suffering and practically immobile. Off to the physio today for help with exercise and strength stuff but can't get to the GP until Monday morning so I need some advice on any over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication that works well for referred nerve pain (similar to Voltaren).

Any ideas, internets?

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

your voltaren will be doing the best job for you compared to any other anti-inflamms OTC. Up the dosage to 8 Voltaren 25mg tabs, so 2 every 6 hours, as the REAL max daily dose is 200mg. Then add panadeine regularly. The paracetamol and codeine will hopefully knock over most of the nerve-based pain you have. Regular doses of this (again 2 every 6 hours) will provide better relief than just using it when the pain occurs.

there is nothing else OTC that would be all that effective, apart from either a heat pack or rub that will improve blood flow.

Seeing a physio is a good start, but you may require a short course of Valium.

red menace  said about 3 years ago:

thanks gabbo!

I'll keep on with the Voltaren and kick in some Panadeine too.

Hopefully my physio will prescribe a day or so of bed rest so I can stay home from work too.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

oh yeah, that will help short-term too. if you are resting, use a heat pack on the painful area. ice will make it worse (most likely).

red menace  said about 3 years ago:

just wanted to stop back into this thread to say thanks to gabbo. the voltaren/panadeine cocktail every 5-6 hours has worked really well together with the resting.

your wisdom is most appreciated!

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

good stuff, red menace.

don't thank me, though, thank the good people at pharmaceutical companies.

the lower left part of my back is killing me. i hope it's not kidney stones.

juicenewton*  said about 2 years ago:

Okay, back pain due to tearing/pulling muscles I get, but what the hell is this nervy pain shooting down the front of leg and in my hip also? Off to the doctors fucken.

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

Possibly due to nerves being affected by a back problem. Had an Osteo give me a thorough once over after I was getting nerve issues in my legs, massage, stretches, cracks and all... issue fixed.
Can recommend a great Osteo if yr in Sydney.

garumph  said about 2 years ago:

Bulging disc in your spine perhaps. The disc is literally bulging out from between your vertebrae and pressing on a nerve. I had one years ago and it ain't fun.

Make sure you go to a good GP.
I had the same problem and had X-Ray, CT SCAN, MRI and a surgery (removing a disc form C5/C6). It was horrible.

juicenewton*  said about 2 years ago:

Right, after much pulling and prodding by the GP he said can feel it - and it's bursitis in my right hip which explains a lot. Had a cortisone injection and some X-rays. Knowing my family history it will be hip replacement surgery for me before I'm 40.

devines  said about 2 years ago:

waaaa I got it on Sunday night and it's not really let up since. Luckily am seeing the physio tomorrow. Think I need to get some voltaren or panadeine though because it's really hurting to sit down/stand up, and walk easily.

I can't believe it though. I screwed up my knee in Feb and have been going to physio since then for it, and started doing pilates (the past few weeks) to strengthen my knee/etc. Had a massage on Saturday and I think it contributed. The ironic thing is I went to the physio place to get the massage. I asked the massage therapist to do my neck/shoulders but she instead decided to spend half the time on my lower back. fuck.

I don't know if it's a combination of the massage, knee, and pilates but whatever it is it's annoying because I was doing all these things to make me better not worse.

I feel like an old woman dammit!

juicenewton*  said about 2 years ago:

The fucken busitis is back (pardon the pun) finally booked into a physio seeing him tomorrow. Can someone advise bout what they do with ultra sound? Can I ask for it?

angelicIV  said about 2 years ago:

Dunno but I did my sciatic nerve again lifting shit heads amps. Two days later an I need fucking drugs.

That's twice in a month. I'm frail.

devines  said about 2 years ago:

Oh man I feel your pain people. The GP reckoned I had bursitis in my knee. The physio said the patella was maltracking waaaaaa.

I got sciata late last year, couldn't get out of bed, and couldn't walk proper for a day. Was in pretty bad pain.

Now it's the lower back. It's bloody ridiculous.

Anyway, went to chemist at lunch at got voltaren tablets and voltaren gel, but neither seem to be doing much. If it's not feeling better tomorrow, am not coming in to work, it's near impossible to work right now. urgh.

Suffering lower back pain at the moment. Can hardly walk and any random movement might come with stabbing pain. I hate being like this.
