Faster Louder Vs M&N

fourforward  said about 6 years ago  or at  3:32PM on Thursday, September 14 2006 in chat

What's the difference between the 2 really? To me they are basically the same. The faster louder people seem to think otherwise.

"mono is populated almost entirely by bitchy scenesters"

"Yeah, it SUCKS that shirt-stirring bigots are put in their place."

"I've perused mono and I fail to see what is so funny about it. I guess you have to be a mono scenester to "get the inside jokes". Please tell me what is so funny about mono? Maybe I am missing the point??"

"Reasons why FasterLouder is better than any of those scenester websites or mono? It's because up until now we haven't had to deal with people and their scenester crap. People who are here at FasterLouder are here because we love music - not to count how many people we can pick up on the net."

Can I be mad at Off The Record? Probably not. If someone gives you a contract you should read it

Honestly...

GrantleyBuffalo  said about 5 months ago:

goingblank, I remember the Juice comps being sponsored by a label (eg Polydor) or a brand (eg Kahlua).

I'm not sure what that had to do with anything. I'm just showing off my prowess in useless trivia retention.

GOD  said about 5 months ago:

I got that Yen email, I just ignored it. Surely anyone contacting me about my shitty music was just trawling for desperados willing to pay some coin. Looks like I was correct.

etiquetteyet?  said about 5 months ago:

I reckon any of us would make that same mistake, it's a pretty fair assumption to make

The mistake of not reading the Terms & conditions? How could you possibly not want to know the finer details if your intellectual property was involved? Every musician should know to read a contract or pass it onto someone who can. I've got no sympathy for this chump.

kinghound  said about 5 months ago:

As we all get used to agreeing to endless iTunes, Spotify and BandCamp contract updates it is evidently all too easy to breeze over a vital sentence or two and send a month’s worth of sales profits down the tube.

$700 profit a month? The dude is raking it in then.

Self confessed stupid

Make sure you read the fine print before signing on.

silvertone  said about 5 months ago:

He wants to spend SEVENTEEN GRAND making an EP? That is fucking stupid!

BigBoysSocks  said about 5 months ago:

Really seems obscene. That sounds like a major label budget for an EP.

mrmagoo  said about 5 months ago:

gotta keep Paul Mac in the charlie!

Temet  said about 5 months ago:

How many days does $6400 get you at the studio in question?

ghoti-max  said about 5 months ago:

He wants to spend SEVENTEEN GRAND making an EP?

That has to be a joke... He should stick to writing think pieces about minor industry squabbles. That music is not worth putting money into.

seahunt  said about 5 months ago:

What the hell!

ghoti-max  said about 5 months ago:

I think it's entirely possible that the guy, his music, and his goal of $17,000 is one gigantic Kaufman-esque troll that will end up in a 2,000 word article on The Vine

mrmagoo  said about 5 months ago:

hey guys, Paul Mac doesn't come cheap!

mrmagoo  said about 5 months ago:

ah didn't realise he had a breakdown of costs on that pozible link, my apologies

checkers  said about 5 months ago:

$13 for a 6 track EP. And that's the pre-order price.

mule  said about 5 months ago:

who is this guy again?

flukazoid  said about 4 months ago:

Check that crowdfunding project again, by the way

ghoti-max  said about 4 months ago:

Fuck's sake. You could start a label with that kind of cash

mule  said about 4 months ago:

just listened (?) to 'only only'... he's taking the hipster craze to new and fucked up heights with that shit, my word.

checkers  said about 4 months ago:

Stats:
Raised: $13 680
Backers: 260
Average contribution: $52
Contributions under $13 (''actually get the album'' level): 5% backers, 0.5% value
Contributions $13 - $30: 60% backers, 25% value
Contributions $31-$100: 25% backers, 25% value
Contributions $100-$200: 7% backers, 20% value
Contributions $201+: 1% backers, 20% value

The numbers don't quite add up, I think it comes from anonymous contributions / contributions asking for a smaller/no reward tier than they deserve / contributing a non-reward-tier amount.

I guess the lesson for artists is: some of your biggest fans will allocate low three figures of disposable income to buying 30 minutes of your life.
