Ween

the power of 666  said about 6 years ago  or at  10:38AM on Thursday, September 21 2006 in music

There's no 'general' Ween thread. So here it is. Anyway, M&N Gmail attack of 6 sweet demos from 1992 including Feed the Fire, Gabrielle, Short Span of Attention (awesome Paul Simon kinda jam) etc. Get with.

To Merideth!

I've been wanting to start this thread, but I thought it'd only be right if you did it.

I got my Live in Chicago DVD last night. Awesome.

the power of 666  said about 6 years ago:

I do love you Blake!

There are a few Ween threads, but they're all specific. I need a home for such an obsession. Anyway, log onto the m&n gmail as these demos are fucking awesome!!! Their 1992 period demos are some of the best shit they've done, and will probably all turn up on a Shinola one day. The early version of Gabrielle is cool & this early version of Mango Woman is fucking hilarious!

Still have to order Toronto on vinyl & the DVD, but i've got alot of live ween, so it's a bit lower on the purchase list.

666, you're awesome.

can someone tell me what the login details are for the M&N gmail account so I can go download?

the power of 666  said about 6 years ago:

PMed

Modi  said about 6 years ago:

Wow, Gabrielle is that old?

Fark. I would have totally rocked that shit in 1992. Ween would have been the new Chicago.

hiponion  said about 6 years ago:

we talked about ween last night and came to the agreement that if they tried a klezmer or polka revival album, they'd make it cool

they can do any genre and make it awesome

CaptainLeSnak  said about 6 years ago:

We need to do another Ween tribute night - or better yet just a Ween night at Vegas!

McGauz  said about 6 years ago:

the paul simon-like song is awesome! and hilarious. sounds so much like that song which I forget what it's called, but you know.. the paul simon song.. ahem

bought the live in chicago dvd on the weekend.
watched it twice.
little bit of research shows me that the gabrielle 7" i bought in new york is a bit rare.

blake3030  said about 6 years ago:

How about a Ween costume party? Come as your favourite Ween song!

I'd love to dress up as a mollusk, a spine.... or HIV!

ladyh  said about 6 years ago:

thats a good idea captain!

I wonder if nick oliveri and josh homme were in the room together?

It won't make up for no more ween but I really hope they both crank out awesome solo shit for a while.

klaximopark  said about 7 months ago:

I found the aaron freeman album to be pretty shithouse in that I put it on, thought nothing of it, then actually listened to it the second time around a week later, and now never feel the need to listen to it again because it was hugely dull.

deaner's sounds far more promising.

redeyerobbie  said about 7 months ago:

Aaron will do an album of original material, then it will get serious. I like his album but it does seem like a little experiment to get the Aaron freeman name around.

slothman  said about 7 months ago:

nah. the aaron freeman record was pleasant, but i might say the same thing about a josh groban record. i wasn't looking for anything particularly ween-y but the whole thing seemed to lack substance. psyched for deaner, and any subsequent gener.

if nick and josh can get back together (i hear there's some homme on new mondo generator) there's hope for us all.

RoastOxCrisps  said about 7 months ago:

I really do hope Nick and Josh get back together for proper.

slothman  said about 7 months ago:

listening to la cucaracha for the first time in ages. stands up. better than quebec.

redeyerobbie  said about 6 months ago:

Askdeaner.com reports of the damage in new jersey is pretty full on. The mollusk house is gone...

slothman  said about 6 months ago:

goes to show what i know. i would have probably put quebec at 10. whatever.

moribunderast  said about 6 months ago:

Lists like that are all very subjective anyway, obviously, but Ween albums are pretty hard to split or rank for me, as they all offer something different. Country Greats, White Pepper and Guava are the only albums I'd say are genuine hit-and-miss. The rest all have a great strike record and when a band is as ambitious as Ween, one or two duff tracks per record is fine. Listing God Ween Satan as their 2nd ''worst'' album is madness though. MADNESS!

RoastOxCrisps  said about 6 months ago:

I don't know how to rank them, but calling Quebec Ween's best album is something I never thought I'd hear.

For me there's a holy trinity of the Mollusc, White Pepper and Chocolate and Cheese. Then the unholy Pod/Guava/GWS trinity. Don't know where I'm going with that, but Quebec and La Cucaracha and GCG and Shinola are also rans compared to those 6.

It's been too long since I've watched Live in Chicago. Must rectify that soon.

redeyerobbie  said about 6 months ago:

Lists always sucks and rating ween albums will never be easy but I disagree with nearly everything he says about 12gcg but do agree Quebec is very under rated and completely awesome.

I downloaded the final ween show ages ago but haven't been able to bring myself to watch it yet, the wound is still too raw.

slothman  said about 6 months ago:

i've never stopped loving the pod. it's pretty ace that there are other albums i like just as much, that they're all by ween is amazing.

i've also got mad love for the friends ep and live in toronto.

redeyerobbie  said about 6 months ago:

I have a theory that ween have a song that could soundtrack any/ every moment in life, from the best to the worst, not many bands have that.

RoastOxCrisps  said about 6 months ago:

Live in Toronto was the first Ween album I listened to. It has a very dear place in my heart.

slothman  said about 6 months ago:

not many bands who have successfully pulled off the shield/spongebob soundtrack double

RoastOxCrisps  said about 6 months ago:

Not to mention a honda ad.

slothman  said about 6 months ago:

they also had a cameo in the ill begotten snl film ''It's Pat''. Probably the only people to get out of that one with their dignity in tact.

That interview is so great. Thank you.

slothman  said about 2 months ago:

well that was pretty short lived. i hope some new music comes out soon.

I have sorta lost interest in this website the past couple of months……….I’m gonna leave it here and resume answering questions if and when I feel like it since I already paid for the domain name and server space. I just don’t feel like answering any questions about the band right now.

also i think there are some plans to get in cahoots with les claypool for some sort of fishing show
