Inactivist  said about 5 years ago:

There's some really interesting links through that... another couple of articles defending hipsterism as just what the ''kids'' are into now and anyone who sooks about is fucking old.

Actionralf  said about 5 years ago:

Goal attack  said about 5 years ago:

hipsters didn't invent apathy - that was the slackers' claim to fame

Actionralf  said about 5 years ago:

Is it considered hipster to agree with this article?

charlesincharge  said about 5 years ago:

great article. so true. they need to be buried for cool to be reborn. i can't help but feel a million times better/cooler than any hipster loser though.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

charlesincharge  said about 5 years ago:

Reverb  said about 5 years ago:

I read an article the other day (think the link was from a thread on here) which argued that hipsters despise their title, unlike b-boys, grungers, hippys etc.

fuck 'em for being so self-conscious

What are you doing in this thread? come with me to the Miley Cyrus thread

zombo  said about 7 months ago:

it seems like only yesterday that ''hipsters'' was still a word meaning ''slightly flared trousers from the sixties''

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

Hipster was one of those things, like ''political correctness'', that started as people gently poking fun of themselves

Really? I thought it was one of those labels that nobody puts on themselves... or maybe that only became so once it was appropriated by the mainstream, aka ''became a thing''.

mule  said about 7 months ago:

hipster was of course already a cultural phenomenon in the 40s as well. it's a postmodern thing and hence is pretty confusing and layered...essentially it can be nothing and everything. who cares, really? i try to ignore this stuff these days, life's too short.

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

I concur and also do not care. But may be heard rambling on about it for a few years yet.

amazinglyblended  said about 7 months ago:

This is officially over as a cultural reference point, hey?

they're selling hipster wigs in Woolworths man

iiii!  said about 7 months ago:

Don't be so presuming, Ed. You can't go round calling a spade a spade and be surprised when someone buries you.

The greatest trick the hipster ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Meh. That is a really really poorly written article which would inadvertently point to the fact that the hipster problem is very real. It gives credence to conspiracy theories like president obama is actually a hipster and was born in Williamsburg. 2/10

mule  said about 6 months ago:

it's actually a really good article sting but we already know your perception of quality is yours and yours only.

sting-bono  said about 6 months ago:

I just reread that article to see if I missed something, nope, the style is horrible. I judge my quality based on the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique code of points system. I revise my score to 1.5/10 - 0.5 points lost for the constant inappropriate use of quotation marks.

The article was republished in Salon to what one might deem is a more learned readership, the comments are pretty funny http://www.salon.com/2013/05/12/enough_with_the_hipster_bashing_partner/#comments

As you were Mule, you ass.

i wasn't talking specifically about the style for one, i was talking about the article as a whole. i agree with it conceptually and think it raises some good points, it's just a shame that the discussion has to be about how the words are strung together. i think it's quite well written, it's an engaging style that makes you pay attention, it's certainly not to everyone's taste but i respect someone who makes an effort to add a bit of individuality to their writing.

you're argument is essentially, no i don't think it was well written and all these other wankers on this wanky website agree with me so there.

it's a bit juvenile really.

What's with male hipsters wearing their jeans so that they hang down at the crotch? It looks like they've shit their pants.

Adrian-Ronalds  said about 5 months ago:

I had to work with this chick from Chicago (USA) the other day and I had to tell her about this snowflake on my ankle (snowflake tatto).

She just cracked up laughing for a long time. Not in a bitter way but it made me feel really daggy and confused

It's not limited to hipsters.

Adrian-Ronalds  said about 5 months ago:

Tight crotch is wack yo. Nah seriously it is a lot more comfortable and fashionable (that's double bonus) to wear jeans like that.

outerspacextrapnel  said about 3 months ago:

Just heard a great definition of the difference between a coolsie and a nerd. Nerds spent ages learning things, while hipsters just spent a lot of time to own things.

lolsmith  said about 3 months ago:

Watched that an hour or so ago - gold. It's an ad for jeans tho?
