Baz Luhrmann's ''Australia''

mathieson  said about 4 years ago  or at  12:10PM on Thursday, October 16 2008 in films

Put your hand up if you're not a promotional partner of this film? This is just going to be rammed down our throats between now and November 26.

is it a movie about australia?

aquatic  said about 4 years ago:

god help us. nicole kidman & hugh jackman boring the tits off everyone

juice_terry  said about 4 years ago:

the most disgusting concept for a film i can think of

Angelic  said about 4 years ago:

is there sugar cane fields or is it sheep stations? or both?

djbollocks  said about 4 years ago:

I hope it bombs.

Angelic  said about 4 years ago:

it's a fast tracked to BLU RAY type movie.

bamesjaker  said about 4 years ago:

Everytime I catch a Qantas flight I feel like I'm a promotional partner in the film.

I'm looking forward to Janet Albrechtsen, Andrew Bolt and Gerard Henderson's reviews of the film.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 4 years ago:

I've never hated a film I've never seen so much in my life.

It looks like a boring, long-winded, wanky, titanic piece of self-indulgent tripe, a 2 hour ad for an Australia that doesn't, and never has, existed.

And Nicole Kidman? For fuck's sake.

Angelic  said about 4 years ago:

is it about a farmer? does she wear a summer floral dress and boots?

Angelic  said about 4 years ago:

I bet there's a massive lightning storm..wow CGI lightining will look great on blu ray.

Wonsly  said about 4 years ago:

i think it'll be good. Baz is a great Australian artist.

djbollocks  said about 4 years ago:

With her recent botox experimentation Kidman seems capable of only making the one expression.

Spidey  said about 4 years ago:

what happened to all her freckles?

babysteps  said about 4 years ago:

yes i am giving Baz the benefit of the doubt for now

he's crazy ambitious, so points for trying i say

plus i don't think you can make a film on that scale in this country without a ridiculously huge and irritating marketing campaign to match - just cos of the way success is now measured on the audience numbers for the first screening or whatever stupidity.

Block  said about 4 years ago:

How's he gonna get the gayness into this?

stussygalore  said about 4 years ago:

I saw Baz in the street yesterday evening.

Angelic  said about 4 years ago:

I hope he uses colour better than those stills..very dreary and drab.

Goal attack  said about 4 years ago:

'' How's he gonna get the gayness into this?''

Perhaps a shearers' nude scene a la ''Sunday Too far Away'' Wobbling bum cheeks ahoy, boys!

That aside, this film is going to super-stink.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 4 years ago:

Looks like Wolverine's getting friendly with the manscara, too.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 4 years ago:

''(it's) a 2 hour ad for an Australia that doesn't, and never has, existed....''

i'm sure it did exist once.

the film after all is set on a cattle station (they still exist!) during the period in australia's history when darwin was bombed.

i'm kind of looking forward to seeing it just out of curiosity - but why nicole kidman baz?! she's so boring these days!

That doesn't look that bad.

mrmagoo  said about 1 year ago:

i'll see it

im interested to see what he does with it, always liked the book

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

you can see all the ''made for 3d'' bits, even in the trailer.

fethehellcat  said about 1 year ago:

I still don't get why he chose to do 3D but it really doesn't look so bad. Then again I don't recall the trailer for Australia, maybe that led one to believe it would be okay too.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 1 year ago:

Gatsby needs its own thread.

Don't post about it in this dog of movie thread.

Looks like a return to form for ole' Baz!

GrantleyBuffalo  said about 1 year ago:

Good to hear Bono absolutely ruining one his band's last decent songs.

Less is more, cockstick.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 1 year ago:

...that's Jack White covering 'Love Is Blindness'

It's a great version.

GrantleyBuffalo  said about 1 year ago:

Ha! I stand corrected. Sounded just like late-era Bono cocking it up a notch.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 1 year ago:

I really don't mind Jack's take on the song... full version on youtube if you're interested.

...you're right about it being one of U2's last great songs though!

JRB  said about 1 year ago:

He has form? When?

JRB  said about 1 year ago:

Tense mixup.

''He *HAD form? When?''

september  said about 1 year ago:

NEVER. HE NEVER HAD FORM. I HOPE THIS FILM SUCKS.

september  said about 1 year ago:

but i will take back everything bad i said about baz if it doesn't.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 1 year ago:

He HAD form? When?

Strictly Ballroom was a great little film. Romeo+Juliet however is Baz ''on form'' - that movie rocked on several levels.

Moulin Rouge and Australia sucked huge hairy dogs balls.

Gatsby looks like Romeo+Juliet but set in 1920's New York.

september  said about 1 year ago:

strictly ballroom has dated hard. romeo & juliet was style over substance and claire danes looking through a fish tank.

LOL

jimmy hutspah  said about 1 year ago:

i liked Moulin Rouge - does that make me gay?

surely not as bad as Romeo & Juliet has....

I am looking forward to this. I was initially worried when I heard 'Baz Luhrmann', even more worried when I heard '3D', but that trailer looks ok.

whatwhat  said about 1 year ago:

i think i got a bit over an hour into australia after going in no great expectations of it being great or shit and then decided that that was enough.

it wasn't bad, just bland.

the great gatsby, however, cannot be fucked up surely. great story, great characters, killer dialogue, carey mulligan...how can it go wrong?

september  said about 1 year ago:

i don't think baz can fuck up great gatsby as much as david fincher fucked up fitzgerald's the curious case of benjamin button.
