one small piece of advice: don't get a futon. don't even think about it or be tempted by the snappy name of the futon place in high street (back to the futon).
also, check online, you never know what you'll find.
pay as much as you can afford for the mattress. but other than not ikea, i don't know.
god. that made no sense.
Beds R Us on Sydney Rd, Brunswick.
And it's a workbench, not a bed.
Get one of these:
Or one of these:
Just make sure it's sturdy. The slats fall out of mine with any kind of vigorous movement, which is predictably annoying.
Also: nothing wrong with Back to the Futon. I bought a futon there eight years ago and it's still going strong, though my housemate's using it now.
not really many hints here on where to look but thanks all the same
i look forward to going into the bed shop and asking for a new ''work bench''
i need a new mattress and i have no idea where to look either.
Seriously eastside, go and check Beds r Us out. Got a great deal there for something that would have been double the price at Snooze.
A good suggestion for the base is for one with little ridges for the slats to fit into. That way they don't move around or make a lot of noise if you were to jump on your bed for example.
i'll be there tomorrow thanks for the tip off
i'll let you know what the salesperson says when i ask try out the work benches
I sleep in a racing car bed. Do you sleep in a racing car bed?
I sleep in a big bed with my wife.
September told me they were called work benches.
go to harvey norman. get 12 years interest free and pay it off at 25c a week.
cnr of malvern and toronga rds Malvern, i have a bed head and base you can have for a slab easty, just a few handcuff marks, nothing a bit of paint wouldn't fix.
Wait for all the shops to have a kevin 07 stimulus sale. take your time trying as many mattresses and don't settle for something you're not 100% happy with. $700-1100 should get you a decent mattress. $300 will get you a base.
high performance bed
a slab of coopers will get him a base.
I can't remember the exact place I got mine from, but it was somewhere at the DFO in Essendon. Got my mattress and furniture from two different places. There were quite a few shops there with beds, etc and weren't all too expensive.

you should really learn how to google stuff
on ebay
and here
thanks C-Nut, but nine hundred dollaridoos!? I'll just prop existing base up on some crates.
Although the black leather finish is super sleazy.
I cant believe how expensive beds are! I thought I was spending a generous amount and would get something awesome, but clearly not.
I could've really used those mattress vouchers now :(
I guess they would have expired.
I got a decent Ikea queen bed with some storage under it. was like $200.
Still got those vouchers SGH?
expired like a cornershop smallgood
This is it:
http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/S29871267/
The storage area isn't too high, it's alright though if you store the stuff before you put the slats in, I've got heaps of stuff I never use stored under it.
Get a Karton bed
FYI, gift vouchers legally should still able to be redeemed after the expiry date*
*may or may not be true, but was true at my old work place
karton.....ALL CARDBOARD
It's sickballs
Pretty sure not.
I hope that cowhide rug is all cardboard too...
Karton looks like a bit of a fire hazard.
I have a wooden base already which I love - it's low to the ground. Just need a mattress. Am willing to spend 2k.
When I worked at an electrical retailer they had a policy of letting customers use expired vouchers as long as the customer was a complete asshole about it.
Sort of thinking that, but I was also imagining how light it would be and easy to move.
Don't smoke in bed!

Maybe if you buy one of those frames get a flame retardant bed spread and pillow cases it might work.
Or a fire blanket
Just get an asbestos bed like any sensible person.
