The Glove Is Love (an article)
Crispin Glover is touring the country with a movie he directed called What Is It?. The film is best described as a psychedelic bad acid trip that seems to take place in a fantastical middle ages and involves blackface and swastikas. It stars some porn stars, a lot of people with Down Syndrome, and Crispin Glover. I am not kidding. This is the trailer (nsfw). God help us all...
More Crispin goodies? Sure! Here's his music video for "Clowny Clown Clown" from his 1989 album Big Problem Does Not Equal The Solution The Solution = Let It Be. Of course there's the classic Letterman appearance we linked to back in the day. And here's his follow-up appearance a couple years later. Did you know Crispin successfully sued Steven Spielberg in what became a landmark case? He also claims to be a landowner in the Czech Republic. Of course, we all remember Crispin as George McFly in Back to the Future, which can mean only one thing: Huey Lewis & The News.

is he touring this country?
I can totally vouch for the totally spooky, '70s horror freakout shit. And yes, it's rather NSFW.
oooh i love crispen glover! sounds goood.
lr: Nar, that was an American article I believe.
Oh, I thought this was about his new mo'.
oh
:(
i was thinking we could follow him round the country filming his every move
imagine him in darwin
i just watched the trailer with no sound and it looked pretty fucked up. awesome.
How did he go from being such a weiner to being so fucked up?
I think you just answered your own question, Fya.
touche
an inneresting guy...
best. trailer. ever.
He's mentioned that he's very interested in things operating outside the mainstream, and why his films don't follow any set rules of narrative, plot etc. (According to an interview in Uncut mag). He supposedly collects other weird items like old medical equipment.
Looks good,

Crispin is great, Willard, Rivers Edge & Back to the Future are all amazing.
& probably the only good actor in The Doors Film
this has been out for a while. he's been touring all around america showing it in cinemas. i've been waiting for ages to see this film. he's pretty twisted. you can get some of his books of found art at outre gallery on elizabeth st i think. worth checking out
oh man... what the hell was that!?
I love crispin he's a great actor but clowny clown clown freaked me out... Mr Far (shakes head .. .oh dear) no problem with stream of conciousness.
oh yes i am so happy that he is finally done with it, it took him anout 12 years, i can't wait.
he was great in dead man too
'What is it' is also the title of one of his books sitting the Outre front window - typically the one with a cover of a guys head half blown off.
I love CG - but I'm still yet to see his version of Ben.
I mean the rat movie- what's it called again?

jesus, that q&a...
Yep. It's a shame, I sort of wish he never opened his mouth at all.
Really? Why?
I've got a lot of feelings about what he had to say...that I need to write down at length! And will at a later date. But it comes down to basically what his privilege has allowed him etc etc. I don't feel as though he has a foot to stand on in terms of the way he was condemning commercial cinema.
i haven't thought a lot about it, but i guess the q&a's i've enjoyed in the past have have been more taut/concise. his responses were so dry, long-winded, repetitive and strayed into completely inane territory. plus the constant ''i'll go into more detail about that tomorrow night'' and then he'd just go into more detail anyway. was interested in hearing more about his thoughts on disability and cinema, what drew him to people with disabilities, how he met stewart, how the creative disabled community have responded to the films, etc etc, but after a few questions i lost heart. i mostly enjoyed the night, but it was a super frustrating ending.
Third time I've seen him now and he is a cool character. He does q&a's constantly. He has an answer for everything no matter how stupid. He said he has long answers to cover more questions people might have. People who were asking questions last night were asking stuff that had already been covered. That's why he went back over stuff. The first question was stupid. The second last question guy was an idiot who I wanted to punch in the face. but I did enjoy hear his story on back to the future 2. To see him soo angry and frustrated but still composed was amazing. Although a little hypocritical on talking about them slandering him, then he slandered them. I would love to hear your thoughts Woolfat. Also I thought the cinema staff! My gosh.
What was wrong with the cinema staff? Unless you're talking about a certain director of the festival and his girlfriend...
No idea who that was. But the rogue photographer and setting up of the signing desk whilst the q&a had just started was pretty distracting. Then them yelling at the audience on where to line up at the end for the signing. Just a very frustrating ending.
Crispin Glover and The Wu-Man AKA Julian Wu. ㋡

He was great last night. He had a cold, but still did a long Q&A and a book signing with photos that I’m sure went well into the night.
He talked about spending nearly 10 years making What Is It with his own money, and the last 7 years touring with the film/s and his books. He said he does these tours not only because of distribution issues, but because he feels it’s important to be able to put the content of the film into context. And he’s been able to recoup on the films as a result of that.
oh yes, there was a lot of talk about recouping.
So what was the story with the guy that came up with the photographer? Were they part of the cinema? Anyone find out?
yep, this is dumb.
His long answers seemed to skirt the actual question asked and instead act as a means for him to talk about what HE wanted, rather than what was being asked.
zactly. like recouping.
What's the attraction here?
Serious question.
He was really good in back to the future 20 years ago.
I loved Rivers Edge. He seems like an interesting man, and that's usually a good thing.
I didn't go, but having read above comments, it does sound like he basically recapped much of the same material as this recent interview.
That right there is why email interviews should never be published in full.
