The XX

timewaster  said about 4 years ago  or at  1:12AM on Thursday, May 7 2009 in music

These guys are the new London buzz band. Big buzz in NME, Dazed & Confused, ID, etc...

Normally, I hear the merit in buzzed-up UK bands, even if the music isn't my thing.

But I think The XX is really a pile of crap. So overrated.

It's mainly because they've got Siouxie and the Banshees haircuts.

I can't believe people are getting excited about this music. Heaven help us.

Three people and a dog writing things does not a buzz band make
The nearby beehives have a bigger buzz going

timewaster  said about 4 years ago:

Well I've heard about them here in Australia. I've seen them on Pedestrian and the NME in the newsagent. They're touring with fellow goth-bores The Big Pink. They must have a bit of interest.

HEB  said about 4 years ago:

The Big Pink - now there's a real buzzband

illywhacker  said about 4 years ago:

I always assumed you were in the UK given the timing of your posts timewaster. Bit of a night owl huh?

timewaster  said about 4 years ago:

Yeah, I generally go to bed at 5.30am. Gives me quiet time to write (and by that I mean REAL book writing, not only chatting about rubbish on Mess and Noise and a skateboarding forum, although I do that too)

timewaster  said about 4 years ago:

Yeah, I know one of the guys in the Big Pink. He was kinda fat last time I saw him. Now he's skinny in those clips. Must be photoshop or all meth the other dude is mainlining up his bumcheeks.

i don't mind this band so much.

moo-core  said about 3 years ago:

I like. Quite a lot.

Tim_Marben  said about 3 years ago:

I like, but that song that pays 'homage' to Wicked Game reeeeaaally annoys me.

moo-core  said about 3 years ago:

I noticed that one the other day, waiting for the tram. I was kinda tripped out for a minute. I don't think I mind the song though.

webrokethefan  said about 3 years ago:

I like their album quite a bit.

drugshakehands  said about 3 years ago:

this album is definitely in my top 5 for the year, so good to relax to.

hiponion  said about 3 years ago:

good record.

Goal attack  said about 3 years ago:

I'm with timewaster on this one. It's a bit narcotic and bedroom-produced for mine.

theneworphan  said about 3 years ago:

Good record, but can't get one of their other songs out of my head – ''Do You Mind'' – it's brilliant, and a cover of some awful pop song.

carlos esq  said about 3 years ago:

These guys are much better than most UK ''buzz bands'' I cross paths with. Fair decent.

tugboat  said about 3 years ago:

moo-core  said about 3 years ago:

It'll be done. New password?

HEB  said about 3 years ago:

Been in gmail since 17 September

mrmagoo  said about 4 months ago:

90 bucks as well, fuck that indeed

don't really deserve it after that paltry second album

whatwhat  said about 4 months ago:

That seems mighty ambitious. They got the fan base to pull it off?

illywhacker  said about 4 months ago:

Seems so, last year's Forum show had a ballot and sold out in minutes.

MelonHCST  said about 4 months ago:

90? Really? Isn't that the same price and venue as Stooges? Jeez.

illywhacker  said about 4 months ago:

RRR calling them 'one of the most in demand acts on the planet', whatever that means.

carwashhair  said about 4 months ago:

probably means they're presenting it...

UK trio The xx have announced new shows in Sydney and Melbourne after selling out their
first dates in just 15 minutes.

Wow I guess so.

A friend in Berlin was surprised that I'd never heard of this band before. She seemed to think they were the biggest thing ever

If they were, how come I've never head of them?

I took the liberty of giving these guys a spin with the in-flight play list on the way home and it sent me to sleep. Pleasant sleeping music though...

whatwhat  said about 4 months ago:

New album just went gold in Australia. Earth kept turning.

klaximopark  said about 4 months ago:

Well, bastard, they did win the mercury prize in 2010. While not necessarily a measure of great quality, it's certainly news that gets around.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone hadn't heard of them, but I'd probably consider that person pretty out of touch.

Also, I find the xx to be a very average bland.

NiteShok  said about 4 months ago:

$90 for this band is fucked. I'm still considering the Bris though. Maybe I'm fucked.
