Rove - It's Been 10 Years

Lozenge  said about 3 years ago  or at  10:32PM on Saturday, August 15 2009 in competitions

What the?!

Has Rove McManus really been on the telly for 10 fucking years?!

I saw an ad saying his next show is celebrating its 10th birthday... for real?! It's been THAT long already huh?

And he's still popular... shame on you the Australian viewing public, shame.

gottagetawookie  said about 3 years ago:

i remember when he did Ch31, little urchin from Perth

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah, but that includes when he had a late night show on channel 9. He didn't hit the big time until 2001 when he went over to channel 10.

Lozenge  said about 3 years ago:

Fuck, even 2001 seems too long ago since his Channel 10 debut. Rove, in my mind has been around for about 5 years, but then I don't watch much telly... sigh

Why did this unfunny turd get ''chosen'' to be the new TV host with the most anyway?

I don't get it.

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah it had Peter Helliar and that Dave Callahan I think. It always went way over time. He started on 10 in 2001 and when he started out some controversy about a comedian who made jokes about pedophilia (or something).

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

i liked his ch9 late night show. when a show's on that late, your standards and expectations are lowered. you're desperate for anything remotely entertaining. anything can get a laugh.

i love Letterman.

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah I imagine he could've got a way with a lot more.

temporarybenbutler  said about 3 years ago:

Yes, and he still can't interview for shit.

TimChuma  said about 3 years ago:

I liked the Channel 9 show, it actually had some funny jokes on it.

I still remember seeing that comedian who caused all the controversy during one of first episodes on 10.

hyperfuzz  said about 3 years ago:

i was told last night that he doesn't even steal his own jokes anymore... he has a panel to script the whole show for him.

KillerKitty  said about 3 years ago:

I read somewhere he's worth 2 billion dollars

Lozenge  said about 3 years ago:

2 billion... haha. Hardly!

Maybe several million, with his Roving Enterprises churning out poxy shows, but 2 billion?! Not a chance.

cheezel  said about 3 years ago:

un-funny for 10 years!?!

wow,that wouldn't be easy.

Hazard_Man  said about 3 years ago:

Haha! Don't know if anyone's seen this before. It's from the Australian Communications and Media Authority website... ''Investigations and complaints about broadcasters, October to December 2008.''
Scroll about half way down, and you'll find a record of a complaint against Rove Live... the claim: ''Use of subliminal satanic images.''

The claim of breach was unsuccessful.

timewaster  said about 3 years ago:

Rove's wife dying was good for his career.

I know...that sounds callous. But it's true. It's awful that Belinda Emmett died, she was sixty years too young. I'm sure that she was a nice lady. But the public sympathy and tabloid stories have surely helped Rove's profile. Plus, people didn't expect him to be funny after such a sad loss. Conveniently, he was never funny in the first place.

timewaster  said about 3 years ago:

By the way, that 'controversial' comedian was the American gay stand-up Scott Capurro, who got censord by Rove for telling un-PC jokes.

Modi  said about 3 years ago:

You reckon she was going to live to be 90?

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 3 years ago:

did anyone see what rove was wearing last week? he had a pink hoodie over a shirt and tie, and then a freakin' suit jacket over the pink hoodie!

i don't know what the hell he was thinking.

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

timewaster - I'm sure that is true because he was successful before, but it sure didn't hurt his career.

Tupelo - I flicked over and saw that- thought it was supporting breast cancer or something maybe?.

fashionhayley  said about 3 years ago:

OVER forever! He quit.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

thank fuck.

crackwhore  said about 3 years ago:

joy to the world etc,etc.........

zeroman  said about 3 years ago:

Rove is sending out a call centre application form on monday

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

he's starting a call centre? to say hi to mums across the country? ew.

zeroman  said about 3 years ago:

Word in the press is that the return of Darryl Somers had Rove rattled.

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

aw no!

outerspacextrapnel  said about 3 years ago:

I'm guessing he's going to try his hand at an edgy comedy show like Frontline, my bet is it'll end up like Funky Squad.

JRB  said about 3 years ago:

Well, I'm happy to say that I've never watched an episode of his show. Yay for me!

Spidey  said about 3 years ago:

Thats impressive, JRB.

tinyman  said about 3 years ago:

Bring back Funky Squad!

nerdalert  said about 3 years ago:

This comment from news.com.au pretty much sums it up:

no great loss to the television world!!! he is not funny, and neither are his regulars.

Although, this news has just given Daryl Somers and Johnny Young a twinkle in their respective eyes.

slothman  said about 3 years ago:

didn't mind the ch9 show. thought the ch10 show was appalling at first but couldn't maintain my rage. now that he's off the air i can breathe easier, whew.

although, he's a fucking champion compared to daryl

madirishchef  said about 3 years ago:

It's the best news that I have woken to in a long time. I really did leap out of bed with joy, although I must admit I haven't watched his show, or anything else on crap tv land, for quite some time.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

But who'll steal Letterman, Conan, and Leno material now? Paul McDermott probably.

JRB  said about 3 years ago:

But who'll steal Letterman, Conan, and Leno material now? Paul McDermott probably.

Either that or Vizard is getting ready for a comeback.

Haff  said about 3 years ago:

Rove's not that bad. I don't understand all the hate.

I've never really watched his shows but he seems like a nice guy.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

Well, instead of Vizard, hopefully now Rove can at least produce a Micallef-lead nightly show akin to Colbert or Jon Stewart's shows. Though the problem with these ''variety'' / ''late-show'' shows here in Oz has always been the small talent pool and lack of well paid writers. Rove has a week to come up with the funny, and failed so much.

gabbo  said about 3 years ago:

haff - it's common pap. he is a comedy thief and attempts to appeal to too wide an audience, thus diluting any real ''funny''. I'm sure however that he, personally, could be edgy, it's just that his show is derivative.

TagoMago  said about 3 years ago:

Housewives of Australia collectively weep into their copies who weeklies.

Now Rove just has to die, and it will be complete.

mud  said about 1 year ago:

Rove is the new correspondant on Entertainment Tonight!

anok  said about 1 year ago:

jesus fuck. put him in a canister with tim minchin and throw it into the ocean already.

mule  said about 1 year ago:

haha i think it's great, they can fuckin have him. tim minchin on the other hand...you know thinking about these sorts of guys going overseas combined with our backpacker reputation, it's no wonder we're still considered a laughing stock around the world.

LoadMyRig  said about 1 year ago:

it's no wonder we're still considered a laughing stock around the world.

please show me evidence of this.

as far as i can tell australians are being lauded left, right and centre in the entertainment field right now. not that rove is even vaguely entertaining.

sound like you ahve a touch of the cultural cringe mule.

mule  said about 1 year ago:

i cringe whenever i hear rove speak so yeah, maybe i do. i can't stand him. just heard the reason he is over there is cause he's being tested out before he gets his own talk show on american tv taking over the jay leno spot or something. they take conan obrien off the air and think rove is a good replacement - i don't get it!

mud  said about 1 year ago:

he's being tested out before he gets his own talk show on american tv

That was the ambition a couple of years ago, but I think it must have fizzled out. Him doing that Foxtel talk show, and now this, especially this, doesn't bode well for his big plan.

Is he basically the new Cojo?

Cojo

mule  said about 1 year ago:

i heard it from a girl who works for celebtrity mags so there might be some truth to it...:D

moo-core  said about 1 year ago:

Rove is shit, and they can have him as long as it doesn't lead to the world thinking he's the best we have to offer. We have plenty of great entertainers; Rove is not one of them.

LoadMyRig  said about 1 year ago:

there's no doubt rove himself is shithouse and totally cringeworthy.
