All down to one guy.....Todd Carney.
you can't beat violence. is there one for VIC?
I saw a guy get murdered outside the Coogee Bay Hotel. That was three years ago though.
Carry on.
Jesus - the ''mean fiddler.'' Sounds family friendly.
I have been to the Epping Hotel! 20 something plasma screens all displaying rugby, washed down with a schooner of new! I love Sydney.
and here are the restrictions:
Venues with 19 or more assaults in a 12 month period will generally be subject to six additional special licence conditions:
Venues with 12 to 18 assaults in a 12 month period will generally be subject to three of these additional conditions – no glass after midnight, time-outs for 10 minutes each hour after midnight (or free water and/or food for patrons and the active encouragement of water consumption), and cessation of alcohol service 30 minutes before closing.
Venues with eight to 11 assaults will generally have no additional special licence conditions.
The list of venues subject to additional special licence conditions will generally be amended twice a year, on December 1 and June 1, by amendment to Schedule 4 of the Liquor Act 2007.
Venues added to the list will be subject to the additional special conditions for a minimum of 6 months. After that time, the scheme will allow consideration of whether venues with sufficiently reduced incidents of violence should be removed from the list or have the number of special conditions reduced.
has the exchange changed?
Where is that list from Godzilla?
I caught the tail end of a story on the radio yesterday about something violent that happened at spectrum on the weekend? I was in a store and they were listening to nova or something similar, so it must have been a fairly prominent story. What happened?
the very first time i went to the barwon club i was terrified.
Not really true. Goulburn has many, many more dickheads and there were always plenty of blues before his time. As it is the only night club in town of course its gonna be fight night every night
A media release was issued just today:
http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/media_releases.asp
The government must have access to the new BOCSAR data that hasn't been released yet. That list is pretty different, and a lot shorter than the most recent publicly available data.
The list has gone from 48 premises to 19 premises! And the exchange is off, YAY!
People speak of it in hushed tones, lest it suddenly appear.
reading what goldfoot posted, some of the restrictions are in place (glass/10min breaks/half hour close) but the 2am is gone along with no shots?
2am will be the winner, go vegas.
the list is from OLGR
there is also a shorter list there of venues that were previously on the list and managed to get themselves off it.
I understand that the casino has had enough incidents to be on the list but isn't.
no change then for the casino.
the casino is above the laws of ordinary mortals
the level 2 restrictions are really not hard to comply with. It is the 2am lockout that everyone hated and that was so bad for business.
Jasmine, I was outside qbar on Saturday and saw a fucked up violent fight across the road from spectrum, but it wasn't in spectrum. Maybe that was it?
Bar fight as Hemmes goes to court
KIM ARLINGTON COURTS
November 27, 2009
WITH the reputation and profits of his flagship bars at stake, hotelier Justin Hemmes yesterday went to the Supreme Court, fighting to have Ivy and Establishment removed from a list of Sydney venues with an increased rate of reported assaults .
New regulations come into force on Tuesday, imposing restrictions on licensed premises in a bid to cut alcohol-related violence. Different conditions apply based on the number of reported assaults at a pub or club each year.
Ivy and Establishment are among 47 venues facing level-two restrictions with 12 to 18 reported assaults. Under the regulations, venues must stop serving alcohol 30 minutes before closing and use plastic drinkware after midnight.
Mr Hemmes was in court yesterday as lawyers for Hemmes Trading made an urgent application to Justice Clifton Hoeben, seeking to set aside the venues' inclusion on the level-two list.
Counsel for the plaintiff, Mark Leeming, SC, said the regulations would seriously impact on the reputation, operations and profit of Ivy and Establishment. He argued that with 2.5 million people going through the two venues each year, the rate of assault was low.
The court heard The Rocks police had linked only 11 assaults to Ivy, but the police Alcohol Licensing Enforcement Command attributed another three incidents to the complex. Had that not happened, patrons would ''still be drinking champagne from glasses, not plastic, after midnight''. ALEC had attributed an additional five incidents to Establishment.
He argued that his client had been denied procedural fairness, with no opportunity to meet decision-makers to challenge the extra incidents.
The court heard one alleged assault involved a woman who claimed she was hit by a bottle but, after repeatedly changing her story, admitted she was angling for membership to Ivy's rooftop Pool Club. Another allegedly involved a man who was pushed to the ground as he queued outside Ivy. Police noted he was ''obnoxious'' and too drunk to make a statement, but bragged about how much money he made as a lawyer.
Bret Walker, SC, for the State Government, disputed whether there was an obligation to afford procedural fairness in the case, but in any event there had been ''ample procedural fairness''. He said there was insufficient evidence for Justice Hoeben to consider what happened during the alleged assaults and that ALEC had specialist police expertise when it came to issues of alcohol and violence. ''Selling liquor … is not … a fundamental right,'' he said.
Justice Hoeben reserved his judgment. The case returns to court on Monday.
Photos of Justin Hemmes used to appear regularly in the ''society'' pages of the weekend papers. Every picture used to look the same. Hemmes with a wine glass in his hand a pretty girl nearby. Lately the wine glass has disappeared.
and the results..
Hemmes loses plea to excuse Ivy and Establishment
KIM ARLINGTON
November 30, 2009 - 12:16PM
Staff at the popular CBD bars Ivy and Establishment could be scouting for scores of plastic cups today, after an unsuccessful legal bid to be exempted from new restrictions on serving alcohol.
Justin Hemmes's George Street hotels have been listed as level-two venues under regulations that come into force at midnight.
The regulations, aimed at cutting down on alcohol-related violence, require level-two venues - with 12 to 18 reported assaults a year - to use plastic drinkware after midnight and to stop serving alcohol 30 minutes before closing.
Lawyers for Hemmes Trading went to the Supreme Court last week, challenging their inclusion on a list of 47 venues facing level-two restrictions. They filed an urgent summons, seeking to have the inclusion of Ivy and Establishment set aside.
Barrister Mark Leeming, SC, argued on Thursday that the plaintiff had not been afforded procedural fairness and disputed whether several alleged assaults should have been attributed to the venues.
The court heard last week that 1 million people a year visit Establishment, while 1.5 million visit Ivy's bars and restaurants.
Mr Leeming said on Thursday that his clients would face problems locating enough plastic drinkware in Australia before ''D-Day'' tomorrow, when the restrictions applied.
Justice Clifton Hoeben had replied: ''It would be foolish not to be planning for the worst.''
When the case returned to court today, Justice Hoeben indicated he would dismiss the summons. He will hand down his reasons tomorrow.
Lawyers for Hemmes Trading may seek a stay on the decision pending an appeal. Comment is being sought from Mr Hemmes.

Are any of these places live music venues? You could argue Spectrum is on the list as it is part of the Exchange Hotel but I know of only one reported assault from the venue in the last 12 months.
New list out yesterday: http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/media%20releases/rel_souris_20120531_Violent_Venues_List.pdf
I live accross the road from the Oxford Hotel in Bathurst and can vouch for it's seediness. The cops are always out the front hauling people into paddy wagons. I'm suprised the number of incidents listed/reported isn't higher.
Apparently there was an audience brawl at a Jimmy Barnes gig in Geelong last night, at Costa Hall - a notoriously non-violent venue.
