negative approach were fucking phenomenal
but for my money
nothing they ever released will beat
black dots - bad brains
or
my war - black flag
or
the accused - the revenge of martha splatterhead
or
sick of it all - scratch the surface (for more new school stuff)
which are my top 4 hardcore records of all time - not that you probably care
bad brains - live at cbgbs
You're right Mo, I don't care. Not because you are wrong or that you're not entitled to your opinion. More that your posts are always too long.
yep, negative approach, way better than the bad brains...
carry on
lol
never got into negative approach really.
i can and will argue but they are still pretty good.
pretty good for kids to claim a bit more underground cred.
you'll be telling us about Infest next right?
severed head of state
his hero is gone
negative approach amazing but brannon's laughing hyenas are in my top twenty greatest bands ever list
Shut up dnzr it has nothing to do with cred. People who use that as a riposte to opinions they find surprising/admirable are always the ones bearing the weight of self-consciousness on their shoulders. I bet you secretly love Rancid but refuse to buy their records because it's ''not cool''.
Are you sure you're in the right place?
Modi that was my way of expressing my passion for this band, naturally I wanted some form of debate to ensue but not one concerning 'credibility', which I think people here are way too hung up on.
i like ''...and out come the wolves''.
i don't buy their albums cos they stopped being good, not cos they are uncool.
Hahahaha.. top work Arthurly.
Now lets just listen to Crass and all move along.
i fucking hate Crass.
Many do.. many do.. they were twats.. but I love em.
I think Chumbawamba
all time hasn't finished yet...there's a band in 5 years time that will knock everyone's socks off!
There's something mildly amusing about buying records from far distant punk bands shouting about anarchy and having them delivered by an institution so reliant on stability and control as the postal service.
The same can easily be stated for tcp/ip abuse Modi.
but I get all my punk records delivered by postal workers who are JUST ABOUT TO CRACK
All the Crass & Crass-related records I ever owned (& I used to have a lot until the great punk rock robbery of '86) were bought from BLACK ROSE ANARCHIST BOOKSHOP so take that, postal service lap dogs of capitalism and order.
I did always wonder why I had to buy them though and not exchange them for goods &/or services (not that I had any of those to supply).

didn't Government Issue coin the phrase hardcore?
Possibly.
Hey tenzenmen, do you like Extinct Government?
or DOA?
Ah! I used to fucking love DOA. When I was 12.
I bought a DOA record once from a record shop which sadly no longer exists. I was wearing an Offspring shirt at the time (the STUPID DUMBSHIT GODAMN MOTHERFUCKER one. I thought I was hardcore. I still wear it because it rules. And because I'm hardcore) and I took the record to the counter and the dude said ''Are you sure you know what this is? This is real hardcore punk. It's not like the Offspring''
I was excited. Then I put it on the turntable and 'To Hell And Back' came out of the speakers.
...real hardcore. What a fucking douche
bloodied but unbowed was a DOA favourite as a drunk teenager - used to go to sleep listening to it. what a great record. pretty sure the GI story/usage predates 81 but have no idea where i heard this and could be making the whole thing up.
Not sure about GI, I think they came along about a year after the initial wave of Teen Idles/Minor Threat/Necros in early '81.
DOA never did a thing for me. Chuck Biscuits' drumming obviously, but what a mediocre band. Joey Shithead used to say that Americans didn't get the dry Canadian sense of humor, but what he meant was he just wasn't funny.
But also, Chuck served better in Danzig
but also, misfits and danzig are shit. doa are ok but best canadian punk album is dayglo abortions - feed us a fetus
THIS. But unless you're a simple plan fan, the pickings are slim.
And fuck you.
Danzig+Misfits=Awesome
Danzig-Misfits=Not as awesome, but good for the first few years
Danzig now = average
Misfits now = average
The Misfits were incredible. The Dayglo Abortions are the very definition of Z-grade hardcore. What's next, Flag of Democracy?!
Any Three Initials!!!
TALOIGA
i love Flag of Democracy! first 3 albums are incredible!
but on Canadian punk nomeansno have been better than anything from anywhere for 2 decades plus!

misfits were gimmicky trash, kinda like the mummies without the thing that made the mummies great (their songs). dayglos fell off a fucking cliff after feed us a fetus but that album is a stone cold classic. still need to track down the doa/thor splits as well.
oh yeah, i once watched the ''punk rock porno'' lil runaways. if you ever wondered what watching joey shithead get a blowjob was like the answer is ''really fucking awkward and hard to watch''
Good god. I don't ever need to see that.
I reckon Danzig was one of the best songwriters of the era. Only half a step behind Dee Dee Ramone. You're sure you're not just reacting against the cult that sprung up around them? Saints diehards do the same thing with Birdman, and it's silly.
nah, i could never get into their sound and i fucking hate HATE danzig.
the answer to this thread remains the same
Atari Teenage Riot
lol i saw their set @ the bdo in um...2000? they were so fucking annoying to watch during the day.
