I used to get that. You're always so happy at the start, there is so much money! And then by the end of the month you are desperate for the cash. What a vicious cycle.
I get paid monthly too, but I reckon it's awesome. All my bills are monthly so you always pay everything then work out how much cash I want to spend each week, putting aside some for whatever. I dint get paid till the 20th though.
Work keep fucking with my pay. Am meant to be paid fortnightly, and a combination of a minor screw up by me, and slow-moving managerial response to authorisation timelines means that they're enforcing five weeks of no pay on me. I contacted HR to organise an adhoc payment and they say that at this ''busy time of the year'' that is not possible. Well you know what else isn't possible? LIVING AND PAYING RENT AND HAVING A CHRISTMAS WITHOUT PAY. Any one know what rights I have in this situation? Am about to speak to my manager and see if she can get this shit sorted, but if there are any HR chats, fill me in on how I should approach this.
Nothing shits me more than employers not paying staff on time. If they have one obligation and one obligation only it is to pay staff on time. It's really unacceptable. I'm not in HR sonian but I'd be on their case like a motherfucker until you get the money which you're entitled to.
What was the minor screwup? Is HR holding that over you as an excuse or are they just telling you ''busy time of year'' shit? Are you casual or salaried?
Go talk to your boss.
If she can't get it sorted, tell her that you need to talk to HR.
I once said to my boss, I don't care where's the money from, I need it before COB.
He lent me his own money. Top lad.
I have a casual position and a new part-time position. I missed the timesheet cutoff for casual payment on the 23rd Nov, so instead of being paid on the 29th it should have been delayed to the 7th Dec. In between that time, the part-time position was put through HR so all of my hours were transferred to the part-time pay periods. The money (for that delayed fortnight and the next fortnight) should have gone through on the 7th but my manager didn't send authorisation of the payment to HR in time, so now they want to pay me on Dec 21. The last time I was paid was Nov 14.
HR are just saying ''busy time of year'' but fuck that shit, you can't make staff go 5 weeks without pay just before Xmas.

I'm pretty sure you can't make staff go 5 weeks without pay any time of the year no matter what the problem with their pay sheets is. Talk to your manager with HR, if it is indeed your manager's fault that the payment has been delayed because they didn't get the authority on your part-time stuff in, then it is their responsibility to get HR to pay you on time as you would have expected them to be able to make sure you would be paid on time. HR will kick up a stink about it I'm sure but I'm sure the contract you would have signed with your employer would have something in it about being paid on time or in a reasonable amount of time, so they will be breaching some kind of legal obligation to give you the money you have earned.
Spoke to my boss and she's being a champion about the situation. As soon as I told her I don't have the funds to get by until the proposed pay date she picked up the phone and started on HR. She's sorting it out now and says she doesn't care what processes they have in place or how busy they are, I will be paid next week like I should be. PHEWWWWWWW. Thanks for y'all input.
Oh, but this is the nonsense HR sent me earlier that put me in a terrible mood:
''Unfortunately for a variety of reasons, the suggestion you make below for ‘adhoc’ payments is not possible due to the strain on resources that it makes both in our own department and payroll, particularly during this busy time of year. I am afraid that you will need to make private arrangements to allow for the gap in pays.''
Hope it sorts out, Sonian. I had a similar thing at a former workplace when I changed to some bogus traineeship payment thing and my (assistant) boss was a good egg but the head office folks didn't give a shid. It meant I had a nice big paypacket when it eventually arrived though.
When I first went to live in the UK the banks were being super pains about me opening an account (of course I don't have my name on the bills, I just moved into this 7-person sharehouse) so my work was paying me by cheque and I just had to live on credit cards and had a massive cheque-cashing windfall when eventually a nice Australian guy at the London Westpac Business office that I'd gone to in desperation wrote a letter telling HSBC about what a good customer I'd been of Westpac and that they should just set me up and amazingly they just did.
I get paid monthly...it sucks
So do I but thank christ THAT DAY IS TODAY!
I used to get that. You're always so happy at the start, there is so much money! And then by the end of the month you are desperate for the cash. What a vicious cycle.

WHOO! MY SHOUT FOR FUR COATS

Not sure why people don't just have two accounts and have a set amount directly transferred weekly so it feels like weekly pay.

Can you talk to the manager in HR?
Are you on Whirlpool?
If not, do you want me to copy and paste your post there for you?
That would be awesome, thanks Tugboat. What's the deal with Whirlpool? Will they know about this kind of thing?

Good input, fzchk. Will bring that up if it comes to that.
I've been held responsible for people not being paid on time because of my own mistakes and have fought the good fight. I hope your manager does too.
Sonian, it is just a copy and paste job.
Now you just need to wait for the replies here.
Whirlpool is very helpful for things like that.
Thanks man.
it's rubbish sonian, HR/payroll can always make special payment arrangements in special circumstances
you just need someone like your manager or manager's manager to lean on them

WTF is that shit? I'm afraid you will have to sell some things or your body to get some money to make up for the fact we're being inflexible assholes?

Tell me about it.
So relieved it's all over now, though.
