Hey everyone. I've started a new night on Mondays at the NSC - Monday Night Mass. I'm hoping to turn this into a regular night of awesome free bands on a Monday night (after years of frustration of working weekends and not having anything to do early in the week).

Monday Night Mass sees the band room door thrown open for a free 3 band extravaganza from the deepest caverns of Melbournes underground. Every week well be bringing you some of Melbournes loudest, brashest and most brazen local offerings. From 6pm smash a Chicken or Eggplant Parma for the bargain price of $15 and Jugs of Draught all night for $12. If thats not holy economic communion we dont know what is. Come and hear why the Social Club band room is regarded as one of the best sounding rooms in town and have your face melted by some of Melbournes finest. Bands start from 8.30, kitchen open till 9.30, free pool, heated deck and smoking area till close.

EMBERS are a brutal, free-jazz/grind-noise quartet. Their music is freely improvised jazz-noise with echoes of blasting grind and heavy, free rock. We're honoured to have these guys play the inaugural Monday Night Mass. Come watch them tear the NSC apart. Featuring Adam Simmons (various saxophones), Dave ...Brown (electric... microtonal bass) and Sean Baxter (drum kit and junk) with Globe Unity Orchestra alumni, Kris Wanders (tenor saxophone).
ACTUAL HOLES is free-form mayhem from Duncan Blachford (ex-Witch Hats / Psychic Baggage / Snawklor) and Alison Bolger (Beaches / Panel of Judges).
Jem and Jace are DEAD In past lives they spent time with Fangs of... , Fire Witch and Inappropriate Tough Guy Behaviour but now they are DEAD. DEAD, yes. Silenced, no. DEAD riffs and DEAD beats and DEAD shouts spew forth from them with a relentless fury that can no longer be contained within the walls of their private domain.

Hope to make it to one in future - just need to get the radio show prep out of the way early enough.
Superb evening all round, three of my fav drummer in Melb and it was wonderful.
Fantastic turnout for the first week as well.

Dead were awesome, much better than i'd seen them at Old Bar, because the sound could be that much more spacious.
And Duncs, Alison and Jesse were really good. detailed, noisy, bits of ecstatic free jazz mixed with bits of jim white, and killer horns.

Really happy with last night. The bands were awesome. As bxckxt said, was great to hear Dead & Actual Holes play through that pa as I'd only previously seen them at DIY spaces.
Next week, June 6 features some heavy riffage from Wicked City, Hotel Wrecking City Traders & BJ Morrizonkle.
June 13 - No Mass (NSC closed for Queen's Birthday)
June 20 - Horse MacGyver, Young Romantix & Asps (Chrome Dome)
Usual playing times are 8:30 / 9:30 / 10:30, though this may change depending on who is playing.
Looking forward to making it down to one of these. Nice lineup next week fella.
