Too many big words

fROMSEVO  said about 1 year ago  or at  3:07PM on Monday, December 19 2011 in chat

It seems to me that there is an unfortunate rise of people trying to appear smart or classy by using 'big words' in a completely unneccessary fashion. A guy who works in the inventory department in the company I work for cant seem to bring himself to say ''count''. He says ''quantify''. Everytime. He might say something like ''I quantified all the stock that came in this morning''. When he says this he means ''I counted the stock that came in this morning''. I think I'm the only one who is annoyed by this though. but I do feel better about the fact that everyone was annoyed by a guy the other day who referred to something that someone said as ''dialogue''.

I for one am annoyed/very amused by all of this.

Does it happen to you?

What fastidious insight.

This is a very cromulent thread.

You know, I don't use big words very often, but when I DO people often think I am making shit up. Sometimes BIG WORDS mean exactly what you need to say.

Like CLEMENT for example

''The weather today is clement'' I find that suits perfectly.

This reminds me of a scene out of Clueless by the way....

There is no more infuriating manner of address than that which indulges in unneeded verbosity, especially when such efforts lack intellect or perspicacity, and fall shamefully on the side of indulgent, turgid bloviation.

I hope not sporadically

The problem isn't ''big words'' (a label I cannot stand) but rather obfuscation.

I've not heard anyone say quantify when they mean count, thankfully, but when I hear 'myself' instead of 'me', 'utilize' instead of 'use', 'proactive' instead of 'active' it drives me nuts.

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

Proactive is an acne cream, active is a life style.

jbiz  said about 1 year ago:

Exactly - they mean different things

fROMSEVO  said about 1 year ago:

and there's also the guy who says ''what's the ideology?'' when he is confused as to why someone is doing any particular activity. I think that's it from me though

Sexually-proactive VS Sexualyl-active

See, this is okay because it makes sense. This word is being used correctly here

Mess+Noise  said about 1 year ago:

Wyld Ted  said about 1 year ago:

And I haven't started any threads. I'm well within the terms of my probation. I haven't been throwing my band name around, over posting or starting threads. I'm clean, yo

fROMSEVO was one of those 'faux naive' trolls that are almost playing dumb. They are also suspiciously able to use the markup tags and are aware of M+N conventions such as quoting someone and 'fixing' their quote.

Wyld Ted  said about 1 year ago:

Also, I think I know who that Jewish guy was. I know a guy from Sevo who talks about being Jewish as much as that fuck did. I don't think he was trolling. He's a bit weird. But weirdos aren't wanted here anyway. Ban them

Nah, I used to do that. It gets old. As if this cunt was doing it. What he was saying was true. If they were real scenarios. If he's making up stories, he's just lame. Not 'faux naive'
