Look there is nothing wrong with knitting or crotching but we can't all wield the needles like that.
With this in mind the Old Bar is going to be running movies in the front bar at the same time- Monday nights, from 6.00pm.
Good movies, like ''The Evil Dead'' ''Robocop'' and ''Beneath The Planet Of The Apes''. Good movies from my own collection of VHS tapes, in fact.
Here is some more guff from another magazine.
OK see you there maybe? Great.

fuck yes!
That's the spirit.
It starts this Monday, 30/4/2012, and is running for ten weeks, unless there is some measure of demand to extend it. Or cancel it, perhaps.
Should've been Beta.
Do not let me forget to bring my VHS player. God I hope there is not a porno tape left in it like the last time I plugged it in. Why do they make pornos on bright red cassette tapes?
Impossible.
In two or three years of hunting down video, I have only found one Beta- a copy of ''The Deer Hunter''- as opposed to over 200 VHS tapes.
Great idea Block. if you need to borrow a VHS copy of Videodrome you know how to reach me.
Nice!
\
BUT I WANT TO DO BOTH (and can, and will!). so, if you're running movies in the front bar, you're still going to need lighting to pour & drink beers so the knitterly can still get it goin' on too, right?
Block, this is brilliant!
My housemates and I have been collecting VHS tapes from opp-shops for the last three years also.
Would be very happy to see it continue longer than 10 weeks. There's too much gold to dig up.
Here is a photo of my tapes - let me know if you want to borrow anything - have quite a few!
Is that a poster of Kevin Costner?
That's quite a collection!
Wow, who knew?
Thanks for the offer but I have plenty, I think. The full list is:
Week 1. The Evil Dead
One of the films that gave us the term “video nasty” back in the 80s, this is still an amazing and punchy piece of independent film making. It never gets boring, even if you like me you can recite most of the dialogue
Week 2. Robocop plus episode 1 of the TV series
Poor officer Alex Murphy. These two tapes chart the highs and lows of his journey. Being made into a cyborg cop is nothing compared to the indignity of being made into a low budget TV series.
Week 3. Mad Max
Similarly, Max Rockatansky had his ups and downs, with the final instalment still waiting to be filmed, but the original was great. We didn’t make films like this in Australia, and then suddenly we did. You can either play spot the Melbourne landmark or check off the catchphrase lines- “Light me, Johnny!”
Week 4. Sequel special- Beneath The Planet Of The Apes
The first and best of the POTA sequels is a disturbing vision of apes against humans against mutants in a post apocalyptic world with horses and an atomic bomb thrown in for good measure. Suck on that, Tim Burton!
Week 5. Syngenor
A confused and badly acted movie, filmed mainly on location in car parks & after-hours office blocks, using a recycled rubber suit monster, a monster which can be destroyed…by water. You may have missed this in the cinema.
Week 6. Porky’s
It’s hard to explain the mystique that used to accrue to this one. Even today, when kindergarten kids can get all the porn they want straight off the internet, it’s dirty. Features a young Kim Cattrall, who has sex in every one of her scenes.
Week 7. The Wraith
Before Charlie Sheen hit paydirt with Oliver Stone in “Platoon” & “Wall Street” he made this shaky tale of a dead man brought back to life by aliens to stop a nasty drag racing gang in Arizona. Features straight-to-video favorite Clint Howard as well as a car worth $1.5m
Week 8. Halloween
Back to some class with John Carpenter’s 1978 creepy masterpiece, the original and the best. Anyone who points out the cigarette smoke will be punched hard on the arm.
Week 9. The Keep
It’s Nazis vs. vampires in World War II Transylvania, with some odd mysticism and Ian McKellen thrown in. This is a fantastic Michael Mann movie from 1983 and may well be the best thing in the list. I would love to see his original 3 ½ hour long cut.
Week 10. National Lampoon’s Animal House
The pacing is slower than you may remember but everything else is just the same, and as stupidly funny/good. This is the film that gave us both the toga party and “Revenge Of The Nerds”.
Yeah right so this starts tonight at about 6.00, with The Evil Dead.
Well, The Evil Dead startled a few barflies last week.
Tomorrow night (Monday 7th) we have the original Robocop movie PLUS episode one of the short-lived Robocop TV series.
Starts at 6.00pm, Old Bar, free.
Can we please watch the keep when I get back? I dont wanna miss it.
That's not on the list til 25th June- how long are you away for?
He never answered. Oh well.

It's ''Mad Max'' tonight. That shit never gets old.
Sorry, Im back on the 10th of June so thats wonderful news.
That was fun. There is something very satisfying about the way all those explosions and all that screaming drown out the clicking of the knitting needles.
This is getting covered in the Age's monthly Melbourne magazine next week, too.

Okay I was too harsh. It's not THE shittiest film, but it's not as great as its lauded to be. Beer will make it better though I'm sure.
This will be shown at the bar, we don't get onto the big screen til after the knitting season is over in September.
Woolfat, whoever claimed this was a great film? It's full on - which is what we like.
I think I went off on my own tangent there, Block. It was recommended viewing by a friend who said it was amazing (a lot of the reading I did about the film afterwards also stated the same) but it just didn't do it for me. Probably good bar viewing, though.
There is one way to find out what you think of it- come down on Monday.
We'll be starting pretty much at 6.00pm on the dot- this one runs nearly two hours.
Ill miss the film on the 17th of June. Can someone take my spot?
Don't fuck up my arse groove!
i can recommend a good movies called: ''life force'' and ''leviathan''
In the Old Bar system, the people are represented by two separate but equally important groups: the bands, who play music, and VHS Club, who play videotapes.
FFS, Einstein,it's not ''buy a brick'', it's ''watch a tape''.
An open fire, booze and a movie- all for free. Well, except the booze.
and our company, dont forget our company Block.
D-FENS
Liam sells his company by the hour- well, by the quarter hour- if anyone is interested.
That was great, and good to see a few folks coming along.

This week- JAWS THE REVENGE.
When Michael Caine was asked about this movie in an interview, he answered, ''I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.''
rewind
How long does this go for? I cant get there until 6.30pm. Start without me of you must.
89 minutes, plus previews.
That was pretty damn good. I don't know why people think it is so terrible.
Next week we will be back to some quality- Lee Marvin & Angie Dickinson in POINT BLANK.
This will also be pretty damn good, in a different, drier way.
bump
Next up- John Travolta in URBAN COWBOY, on Monday 24th.

The Monday night barman Nick has been hanging out for this one. Beer drinking, fighting and mechanical bull riding, this movie has the lot.
And yes the soundtrack does include everyone's favorite- the Charlie Daniels Band doing ''The Devil Went Down To Georgia''.
And this image came up while I was searching for that poster, and I thought I would share it with you:
