Harvest 2012

mrmagoo  said about 1 year ago  or at  3:33PM on Wednesday, May 16 2012 in events

Saturday 10th November – Melbourne
Saturday 17th November – Sydney
Sunday 18th November – Riverstage, Brisbane

AJ has been twittering like crazy as usual, ruling out bands all over the place (eg MBV, Arcade Fire). Sigur Ros look a good bet, loads of other unsubtantiated rumours abound

be interesting to see what comes, announcement this month I believe

I am guessing he'll try for At The Drive-In and Refused for Soundwave.

mrmagoo  said about 1 year ago:

and i wonder if he's gonna honour the promise for something a bit extra for Melbourne punters this year

i forget what his exact wording was, but something to make up for the problems with booze lines, some sort of members bar or something

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

everyone gets a six pack of cans as they enter the venue? no lines then!

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

I want to see Grimes, Lower Den, Saint Etienne, Blur, Still Corners, No Joy, Go Kart Mozart and Cat Power...

ATD-I have been advertised as an Aus exclusive for Splendour. This will be a contractual thing so no way they'll be doing soundwave.

eucalyptus  said about 1 year ago:

Jeff Mangum plz.

fireballb  said about 1 year ago:

Seems unlikely that the exclusivity clause would include forever and ever until the end of time.

soundwave is march 2013 anyhow, be surprised if they wrote a contract with that long a exclusivity clause, but yes, would probably keep them from harvest.

Soundwave would be next year though. Dirty Three were also advertised as an exclusive performance, despite having toured this year.

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

they should just bring portishead back, easy!

GrantleyBuffalo  said about 1 year ago:

Neil Young playing Harvest (afternoon set), then Harvest Moon (nighttime set).

Contractual obligations are typically concerned with tour and show announcements rather than the bookings themselves. No-one at Splendour is going to care if an ATD-I tour is announced after the festival is done and dusted. See: Mogwai at Splendour last year.

bring it.

blur

and this.

fakeplasticme  said about 1 year ago:

Kanye was also a Splendour exclusive but was back in the country six months later for BDO.

ChrisBrimstone  said about 1 year ago:

Jeff Mangum
Alabama Shakes
Titus Andronicus (or Soundwave?)
Craig Finn solo

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

I doubt they'll get Mangum.

eucalyptus  said about 1 year ago:

Me too, reckon he could be an outside chance for MMF though. Mangum at Meredith, drool.

mrmagoo  said about 1 year ago:

someone get GBV please, would definitely suit Meredith/GP better than Harvest

Booking an Australian band to fill the gap would make even more sense...

checkers  said about 6 months ago:

Winter People deserve a set longer than 30mins and Beck's sideshows prove he has an easy 2hrs of music on tap. Gaps in the revised timetable is a bit sad.

Wonky  said about 6 months ago:

I made this for Sydney. Print it or save it to you phone.

After Melbourne, who are the lesser known acts that should not be missed?

Going in fairly blind tomorrow.

NiteShok  said about 6 months ago:

I think Chromatics will be good. I don't know em much, but there's my sleeper tip for you.

bigdaddykane  said about 6 months ago:

I recommend War On Drugs, Mike Patton's Mondo Cane and Black Angels.

checkers  said about 6 months ago:

Thanks for that wonky!

NiteShok  said about 6 months ago:

I'm planning to see all of Kane's picks as well. It's storming today in Brisbane and likely to tomorrow, as well. Fuck.

mrmagoo  said about 6 months ago:

Everyone should see Chromatics, they were brilliant

checkers  said about 6 months ago:

Well done Harvest! More or less flawless festival.

Turns out there wasn't a 2hr delay between Silversun Pickups and Ben Folds Five. Some band, I dunno who, came on unannounced and started playing. They had an accordion -- might have been Winter People?

Dark, Dark, Dark

aloha  said about 6 months ago:

great day, no queues, people were fairly chilled.

didn't really care for the 90s bands, and the war on drugs were on far too early.

if only laneway was like this as well.

Wonky  said about 6 months ago:

Awesome day. Every band I saw were great - except the Dandys who were boring as usual.

Food was brilliant - I was pretty hungry and ate at the woodfire pizza, the BBQ meat stand next to it and Kransky place over the course of the day.

Free bananas and the water re-fills were much appreciated.

Toilets were remarkably clean and queueless the couple of times I needed to go.

I left 10 mins early and got a 10:15 train back to the city, absolutely perfect day.

brisbane evacuated

checkers  said about 6 months ago:

the woodfire pizza

The one run by the cultists?

Wonky  said about 6 months ago:

Cultists you say?

I also had their ''natural energy drink'' it tasted pretty gross.

seahunt  said about 6 months ago:

Brisbane was a bit crazy. Had to leave the festival for 1/2 hour while the storm passed.

Meant Chromatics set got cut in half - a shame, because they were the best act I saw. Black Angels also great. Most bands there were good, but those aforementioned really stood out.

NiteShok  said about 6 months ago:

Brisbane festival was fun. I'm a Sigur Ros convert. Review

It's chilled piss, isn't it.

Wonky  said about 6 months ago:

With a shot of wheat grass.
