Is this news on the electric audio forum?

liamsnice  said about 11 months ago:

I dont know what that means.

TheBastard  said about 11 months ago:

It's like mess and noise but with Steve Albini.

electricsound  said about 11 months ago:

^haha

TheBastard  said about 11 months ago:

It's like a parallel universe. The same but different

Living in Australia sucks sometimes

There's no way I could get back there in five months.

Hmmm.

No?

anok  said about 11 months ago:

fuck ATP. albini should curate a plane to get his skinny ass over here.

outofphase  said about 11 months ago:

I dont see them coming over here unless it's for an ATP festival. If I want to see them live I'm going to have to go to them.

firewitch  said about 11 months ago:

i'd be patient out of phase

outofphase  said about 11 months ago:

I think I've been patient since about 1995 :)

Block  said about 11 months ago:

I saw them at ATP NY a couple of years back.
Steve was running a poker game all day, and taking plenty of money off of fanboys, too.

polyphloisboian  said about 11 months ago:

This is do'able for me. ATP offer an installment service for the ticket. 180 pounds accommodation included. Has to be paid by September some time. Cheaper than Meredith....minus the flights....

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

The joint where this is being held has the most apalling reviews on Tripadvisor. Is it really as shocking as advertised?

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Here is a recent one star review:

Absolutley horrible, walked into to our room to see crumbs on the floor, half eaten food on the table, mouldy curtains, horrible plastic chairs and much more, nothing was put together properly, shower was filthy and the door kept getting jammed, i went into the bedroom to see yet more mouldy curtains, i pulled back the bed and saw thick mould with many insects crawling about all over the place. Away from the room the enternaiment was bog standard, the chicken place had ran out chicken and the main restaurent food was absolutley awful made worse by the rude staff member that served me, the shop had ran out of pretty much everything and the security was shocking, if it was down to me id rather of spent my weekend in a prison.

polyphloisboian  said about 11 months ago:

The place looks like a retirement village from what I saw earlier today.

silvertone  said about 11 months ago:

A few friends and I went to ATP last time Shellac curated (in 2004) at Camber Sands and the accommodation was fine. Definitely nothing like that Tripadvisor review.

The ''chalets'' are basically just a long two story row of prefabricated apartments from the 70's, they're not modern, but it was clean and totally functional. Who knows, could have changed since then...

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Here's one of the Tripadvisor pix:

Reviews here.

polyphloisboian  said about 11 months ago:

“dirty rotten hell hole”
........... i had to flush away the previous occupants bowel movements and pubic hair!!
(you've obviously never lived in a share house)

Camber Sands can offer an unique combination of miles and miles of unspoilt sand dunes with loads to do in the day as well as the evening.
(This sentence hurts my head)

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Well, everyone, even the haters, says the beach is one of the best in Britain. Sadly not a big achievement by Australian standards...

Velodrone  said about 11 months ago:

I'm more intrigued to see who is playing.

ghostofbarry  said about 11 months ago:

I went to the Slint one at Camber Sands in 2005. The accommodation was ageing but fine from memory.

tihstar  said about 11 months ago:

My understanding is that its all been refurbished since then but I could be wrong.

Cooperative Music  said about 11 months ago:

Funnily enough, that's pretty much my memory of you from that event.

Kez  said about 11 months ago:

I went to the Minehead one a few years ago, and it was fine, like a budget motel room but not a skanky budget motel room (The Palms, Footscray, I'm looking at you!)

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Good to hear. On the other hand, why were you staying in a motel in Footscray?

pagey  said about 11 months ago:

I've also been to Minehead and it was fine, but it also got much better reviews on trip advisor if that counts for anything. Or maybe I was just too drunk to remember any skankiness.

I've also stayed at The Palms, mercifully only for a single (sleepless) night. It really had that 'Murder a Hooker' vibe about it. I dragged mr pagey out of bed at 5am to accompany me on a walk to the Vietnamese bakery because I didn't want to be in the room. One of our fellow motel guests was being taken away by the cops later that morning. Unfortunately I missed witnessing the arrest myself as I had to go and photograph a wedding.

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Sounds if like I want a really exciting time I should skip the festival and head for Footscray.

Also, do you know how hard it is to get a decent Vietnamese pork roll in the UK? It's bloody impossible.

Block  said about 11 months ago:

Hey, butler, my big sister lives just across Romney Marsh from Camber Sands.
Lemme know if you need a place to stay.

temporarybenbutler  said about 11 months ago:

Now it's getting terribly tempting...

Kez  said about 11 months ago:

Friend's wedding in the area too, TBB. Thought we'd get an early start by being close, and the 'palms' outside made it look 'retro'. I think the first words spoken to me by the desk clerk in greeting were ''You pay now!''
One chipped cup, no towels, choice of TWO fluoro lights, grunge on the door handle and light switch surrounds, pigeons nesting in the air-con, mouldy shower curtain, unsupervised toddlers at 2am in the carpark, etc etc. Sounds like Pagey knows the score. (All-surfaces white gloss paint for easy hose-off to remove blood, body parts...)
Some enterprising operator could, uh, clean up by providing a basic non-disgusting accommodation option in the West.

ATP was a palace by comparison.
You should absolutely definitely go.

Kez  said about 11 months ago:

(Take some sandwiches & a thermos of soup though - food is available but isn't that cheap and queues are long.)

Financial woes or no, looks pretty good so far.

liamsnice  said about 10 months ago:

All woes have been cleared up. Nothing financial. Apparently they just wanted to separate the different entities within the company. So gigs, festivals and label all run individually now.

From the ATP website...

Friday July 13, 2012

Statement Regarding Changes Within ATP:

We have now completed a restructuring of the business of ATP Concerts Limited. This involved the Voluntary Liquidation of ATP Concerts Limited and transfer of its assets (including the rights to the All Tomorrow's Parties festival, label, and shows) to a new company called Willwal Limited. We will also be dividing the business into three different companies; ATP Festivals, ATP Recordings and ATP Shows.

The team however, remain the same, having been transferred over to Willwal Limited - and the festival is still called All Tomorrow's Parties. All future events will continue as scheduled on the dates advertised and all tickets for those events are still valid.

ATP remains unwaveringly committed to hosting world class events. Since our inception it has been our mission to provide quality concerts for discerning music lovers around the world - our number one priority has always been the bands and the fans and we work hard, sometimes under difficult circumstances, to achieve the highest standards possible. It is a tough climate out there, but this restructuring will ensure that ATP is around for many more years to come. We thank the fans who have stood by us over the years and especially during this recent time of reorganisation.

Other news we are announcing today is that the U.S. event on September 21 - 23 is to be moved from Asbury Park, New Jersey to Manhattan, New York. This is due to logistical reasons and a full press release regarding the move will be posted here. Anyone unable to attend due to this change will be able to request a full refund.

We have many exciting developments and opportunities available to us that will be announced over the coming months. We will be continuing the work we have done over the past 13 years and would like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past week - we apologise that this statement has taken longer than anticipated to be released (due to needing certain legal clearances) - we thank you again for your patience and apologise for any unnecessary worry caused.

On Monday we will announce the first bands for this December's Nightmare Before Christmas festival curated by Shellac.

Yours sincerely,

Barry Hogan
