So has anyone read it out of perverse curiosity, or just out of perversion?
Why is it that men look at porn all the time, pretty much as an open secret, yet the instant there's a smutty piece of media popular among women, it's lambasted as crappy, base pap? I mean, porn made for men is not exactly high art.
Post your favourite passages here.
Here's some choice, fake ones from http://twitter.com/50shadesofshit and http://www.fiftyshadesgenerator.com/
''my vertical smile now much like a bucket of smashed crabs''
''He was cunt hungry & furiously ate my pussy, like a cannibal on bath salts eating a tramp's face off''.

I want to read this.
theneworphan, have you read Story Of O? Sounds exactly the same as this but BETTER.
Sometimes I wish porn occupied all top three places on worldwide bestseller lists.
I think it's being lambasted as crappy, base pap in the literary world, rather than the porn world.
Something like The Story of O, as wf mentioned, explores similar themes but has a much higher literary standing because it isn't so poorly written / fan-fiction-like.
happycow, are you kidding? Story of O is TERRIBLY written. It just has notoriety status because it was penned by a man under a woman's name, and being written by a ''woman'' made it scandalous.
OK, there we go - it's obvious I know nothing about dom-lit written for women, but I'd still say it's the literary world lambasting 50 Shades, and not the porn world.
i tried reading some of it but it was just terrible.
but still - EVERYONE READ STORY OF O. It's fantastically bad.
I've read The Story of the Eye, but I think that's from an entirely different set of pornolit
I was very excited when I first heard that 50 Shades of grey began its life as Twilight fanfic - says it all, really.
Story of the Eye is totally different pornolit.

what's the one where the guy gets a machine that can stop time and he uses it to sex on unsuspecting ladies?
Vox - Nicholas Baker
erm Nicholson Baker
Keep in mind that it was adapted from Twilight fan-fiction published under the name 'Snowqueens Icedragon'.
Erm, and it's The Fremata , not Vox.
I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread.
Haha, I once told a guy one of my favorite books was Story of the Eye (it's not) just to see how he reacted. He googled it on wiki and then left the bar pretty quickly after that.
terrible book. not even nearly erotic enough.

as much as i hate the motherfucking SHIT out of this book ..... JUST SAY a decent director got on board (bret pfft get off the oxys and the meth and let's talk) and JUST SAY a decent scriptwriter got involved who pumped up the scant actual eroticism in the story, and who JUST MAYBE took massive licence to make it an imminently more believable story and excised the fuck out of the goshes, and down-theres and my-inner-goddesses and my-subconsciouses ... then i might watch that film. possibly touch myself.
and i would appreciate it if alexander skarsgard played christian grey. thank you in advance.
Matt newton was born for that role.
a nation turns it's head and barfs

No wonder australian talent has to head overseas. Too much violent round headed poppy syndrome on these shores.
Paging losgauchos; losgauchos to the 50 Shades thread.
Seconding Matt Newtown, that dude would rock.
When 50 Shades of gray is a common vernacular when discussing something, say in an article or review of something else does that fall into lazy journalist territory?
Am I using the word vernacular correctly by the way? I don't think I am, but it needs to be there somewhere
there needs to be an , after ''else''
sigh
gotta stop hitting enter so often and proof read
I had an epiphany and realised life is too short to bother finishing these books. I'm halfway through the trilogy and it shall remain that way. (they were a gift)
I was in the 57 tram last week and I was reading this over a middle aged woman's shoulder. Wow. It was pretty juicy. I got an erection and had to tuck it into my belt.
Could have been embarassing.
should have told her you have a bookmark in your pants if she wants to use it

My old supervisor (who was, unsurprisingly, a 50 year old single woman) used to go on about these books all the time. And also occasionally try and bate me into discussing my sexual history. It was quite possibly the creepiest thing. Prior to that happening, I had no opinion of the books. Now I have a personal grudge against them.
If there is one thing to be learned here, it is to always be absolutely sure when getting a tattoo.
