My vietnamese co-worker's sister is almost dyin' from having eaten one yesterday.

Those things are like russian roulette

anonymous  said about 6 years ago:

but it might be shut now, so don't run off that way.

juicenewton*  said about 6 years ago:

...but an oh so tasty russian roulette nonetheless

freaksandgeeks  said about 6 years ago:

i'd be scared of food poisoning

dogsvscats  said about 6 years ago:

delicious things you can't find in adelaide: vietnamese pork rolls (or at least a good one), and pides. it kills me!

nicko_mcbrain  said about 6 years ago:

i vary it - i find there are a few good ones, juice. i also dig the 80c fresh dumplings at the little shop right in the back corner of the little shanghai market.

RichardSmoker  said about 6 years ago:

the one near the vic market closed... it is now a bong shop.. so tough to have to choose between one or the other

selected works  said about 6 years ago:

dogsvscats: try A-Dongs on Grand Junction Road road in Ottoway, near port adelaide.

vic-markets: I just had five south melbourne dim sims! ooooh baby!

dogsvscats  said about 6 years ago:

dude, i live southside, ain't no way i'm going out to ottoway! but thanks for the recommendation. i did find pide's at castle plaza?

selected works  said about 6 years ago:

feh okay.

if you're out there though don't be fooled by the shabby building and crusty car-park (did i just describe Ottoway in its entirety?) the food is supa-spesh.

castle plaza? never heard of it. or maybe it was those 5 dimsims...

Sydney Road - about 3 shops north on the west side of Albert Street & Syd Rd intersection - authentic Viet bakery ..... exp. 2 years of pork rolls, with a ne'er a bad belly ..... make the trip up someday ... you gotta have the goods down your way though really ????

Turgid Bowel  said about 6 years ago:

yeah - umm OK - you did oringally say CBD !!!

TransientRandom  said about 6 years ago:

what does char siu have to do with pork rolls?

and how do you make it?

i'm mildly obsessed at present.

rose sunrise in newtown and little devil on broadway - my highest recommendation!
it's SO worth heading to cabra to eat fresh rice paper rolls and to watch them being made - they do it as quickly and as intuitively as me rolling a cigarette. it amazes me.

juicenewton*  said about 6 years ago:

So love pork roll goodness of any description to be found in town??

Business opportunity someone!!!

Hey Turgid (your name makes me feel weird) word on the street is you had a hissy fit today and didn't go into work, true?

juicenewton*  said about 6 years ago:

you know what i mean people.

the vietnamese pork roll scene in mascot in thriving let me tell you. queues a store or two long outside at lunch. everyone knows where its at.

the pork roll service portion of hot bread shops used to be this trolley in the corner. now the pastries are the minority.

excellent pork rolls in the Wentworth building, at Sydney Uni. It's a hole-in-the-wall run by Azzuri, on the food court level, under some concrete stairs. Took me a while to find, but that may be because I felt old and self-conscious.

The little old lady who used to make them doesn't seem to be there anymore. I asked the middle aged white guy who was making them if she was on holidays and when she'd be back. He replied cryptically with a long pause before saying...''well, she is on holidays.''

I'm really worried that he killed her and stole all her pork roll secrets cos those were fucking great. He's really slow on the tongs and couldn't make room for coriander so just didn't put it on. I'm a husk of a human being.

mule  said about 4 months ago:

that place is too expensive...have you tried the place on glebe pt rd? pretty tasty, more your high street pork roll but still just $5.20.

ghoti-max  said about 4 months ago:

They're $5 at Wentworth, you must be thinkin of somewhere else...

mule  said about 4 months ago:

MelonHCST  said about 4 months ago:

Sometimes the Vietnamese ladies at work will put one in my lunch box. One of their husbands owns a bakery in Springvale. Fuck they are good.

Jerm  said about 4 months ago:

This guy gives a pretty good round up. Preston is under represented in any talk of banh mi.

The Naughty Chef in the food court at Suncorp in Sydney CBD is suprisingly tops !

andydepressant  said about 3 months ago:

I love how the seemingly Viet bakery on King St. still uses the side of counter that could so easily be turned into a banh mi bench still, 10 years on in the viet roll advance, is being used for a gelato fridge that I've never seen anyone by from.

flukazoid  said about 3 months ago:

Finally found a place that does these in Epping (the bakery on Beecroft Rd) - epic disappointment. I was so excited too...

Vietnamese Bakery, Safeway arcade off Glenferrie Rd in Hawthorn do a great BBQ Pork & salad roll for around $6. I eat them 2-3 times a week, can definitely vouch.

There used to be a place in that mall on the corner of Oxford and Riley that was alright. Dunno if it is still there.
