The Sloan Thread

williammiller  said about 6 years ago  or at  1:58PM on Thursday, July 13 2006 in music

One of the pivotal bands for me growing up. God I love them

I think Twice Removed is still my favourite, followed by One Chord To Another. I think medcineman has a few words to say about that.

Still, they are recording a new album. Hope it's good. Action Pact only had a handful of good tracks

hiponion  said about 6 years ago:

Sloan were pretty much the best and most consistent band ever until that last record.

I still loved it, though.

As far as the best overall album, its 'Between the Bridges' fer me, very underrated if'n you ask me.

Rah! So much love for this band :)

overground  said about 6 years ago:

you seem so hysterical about it

GnomeChomsky  said about 6 years ago:

They are worth getting worked up over!

overground  said about 6 years ago:

im your opinion, what would i know im just the other man

mipearson  said about 6 years ago:

Oh man. Sloan!

'Deeper than Beauty' is some sort of geek-girl-lust anthem.

williammiller  said about 6 years ago:

Yeah Twice Removed is sort of the perfect mix of noisy, angluar, weird Sloan and the pop Sloan.

Later records had great songs, but the last two records seemed a bit to classicist.

overground  said about 6 years ago:

william why do you always speak like you are an authority on music, as if your opinion is the truth and the only truth! good on ya mate

mipearson  said about 6 years ago:

Yeah. Didn't really get into Pretty Together and never bothered picking up Action Pact after listening to the leaked version.

Bit like The Lucksmiths, really. Started off interesting and raw in the 90's, hit the 2000's and got all boring and mopey and samey.

lespauljunior  said about 6 years ago:

Between The Bridges for mine. There are a couple of records I haven't heard though...

iamthewalrus  said about 6 years ago:

Navy Blues is my favourite. It's killer from start to finish.

milesmonroe  said about 6 years ago:

Missed the bloody TV show, damn...

BUT, I did finally succeed in filling the two missing pieces of my Sloan vinyl discography when I recently scored a copy of Between The Bridges and Twice Removed, each of 'em in beautiful condition too!

Fielding Mellish  said about 3 years ago:

Someone should bring them out again. They're one of my favourite groups I reckon. I even like Action Pact!

bigdaddykane  said about 3 years ago:

The live TV show was not kind. Do they always sing that bad and I'm just too full of beer to notice?

From FB:

Chris Injured In Hit And Run

Sloan's Chris Murphy was thrown from his bicycle when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on the night of Friday, July 24th.

Chris is recovering at home having being released from the hospital the following morning. The impact resulted in a broken collarbone and an assortment of cuts and bruises. We're confident that he will have a full recovery and he has not sustained any critical injuries.

Witnesses were able to report the license number and model of the vehicle, and police are now investigating.

Sloan have had to cancel a number of their upcoming performances as Chris is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his collarbone. The band hope to be back on schedule by the end of August, and currently intend to return to the stage for their V-fest performance in Burl’s Creek, ON on August 29th. The band plan to resume regular touring in October.

Please encourage your friends to bike safely. Always wear a helmet and use front and back lights and reflectors when driving at night.

Go easy on the windmills Chris.
