Why is it when you take your guitar to the shop about a specific problem you have they attempt to solve everything but that problem. They then give it back with a price tag for all this work on shit you never needed and don't solve the FUCKING PROBLEM!!!!!
I've had:
A total refret job worth $450 because of buzzing on some frets. I get it back with more buzzes and 'oops it was a truss rod issue'. 450 and all you needed was a turn of the truss rod?
'The placcy bit at the neck has cracked can put another one on and perhaps make it a bit higher as the last one buzzed and I had to put slips of paper under it?' It comes back with a new placcy bit AND A FUCKING MATCH STICK UNDER THE OFFENDING STRING!!!!
I just took my acoustic in cuz I thought they might be able to adjust the saddle pick-up so it wasn't so murky. It has WAY too much bass going on and has no clarity to the upper mids. What does the guy do? He checks and repairs all the connections and investigates the battery placement. THEN HE RINGS ABOUT THE ISSUE. Oh can't do anything about that without replacing the whole pick up mate. WHY WOULD YOU FIX SOMETHING IF YOU WANT ME TO REPLACE IT? Why would I ask about frequesncy response if i had a connection issue? I NEVER MENTIONED ANY TROUBLES WITH THE CONNECTIONS!!!!! Another 150 down the toilet.
Fucking listen first then take it apart!!!!!!

name and shame
yeah man, name this sucker. this dude sounds like those evil motor mechanics. $600 to a mechanic up here a few months ago and he never fixed the problem I asked him to fix. stupid fukcs. took it back the next day and he's like, "nah man, it was fine when i drove it ay...do you wonna book it in agenn? ".
andyd: are you in sydney? i know a top-notch guitar repair guy on the central coast - craig upfold. and he's reasonably priced. they examine & quote before they start work...he's a full-on luthier, and he's also the guy they got to design all the "ashton" guitars you see in the shops.
fuck, i always write out concise but explicit instructions for what i want done. the only reason i don't do guitar techie stuff myself is because i don't have the tools, and because i'm all thumbs when it comes to wiring. can't even solder.
I'va always had better luck doing it myself but fuck there are so many things I don't know about.
So far it's been the guy from Pete's musician market and the guys from Guitar factory on parrammatta road. Everyone sez COLIN BLOXHAM but the dude is so in damand you gotta wait weeks to months.
$450 for a refret is outrageous! You might as well have bought a new neck or guitar for that much.
If you live anywhere near Fitzroy I can do basic setups for around $50.

andyd - seriously, try upfold guitars. i'm only 15mins away from him but i reckon it's worth the 1hr drive nth of sydney
(pm me for details)
Should i get my electric case fixed (hadle came off, one bukle broke) or just buy a new one? do they do repairs?
I'm sure you can get replacement parts. DIY.
It would depend on whether the case is worth anything, if not, then replace it.
thanks mid_c.
I don't have a car and in Sydney. i had to vent, It feels better now.
If you're in Vic, James @ Gallins is THE best. Well, he doesn't actually work there, they just outsource to him.
I think Sydney is in NSW. Is everyone on here a Mexican?
Nah. I'm a dumb cunt too andyD. Come to Oscar's on Sunday. Fun.
Erm, thanks Andy, I was posting that for general info, not for yer good self.
For victoria, Jim Cargill is also very good.
I STARTED THE THREAD HATTIE!!! REMEMBER THAT! I got work till 12:30 frenking.
Andy, take it to Piers Crocker, next to the bassplayer. Fixed my uke for bugger all. Nice bloke, quick, great work AND a mate of the Hayes boys!
Don't shout at me! I'm only just little.

I've got an Epiphone Sheraton with fucked contact at the jack. I tried tying an old string around the thread on the jack so that I could pull the wiring out without losing the jack in the guitar, but it didn't work. Now I have a guitar that works intermittently, with a tangled string wrapped around a the lead! Any one know somebody in Melbourne that could fix this quickly/cheaply before NYE?
I'd try to hit up Guitar Emporium. They're usually pretty good with the rush job, can do it quicker for a slightly higher fee sometimes, and are cheap and fair.
Can anyone recommend a brand of contact cleaner I could use on my pickup selector?
There's a couple at dick smith, but the 7 dollar one says it'll damage plastic, and the 20 dollar one says it is without lubricant, and apparently with these jobs you want lubricant. Plus I don't want to pay 20 bucks for a 5 cent squirt, or 50 bucks for a basic service.
I think the one you want is without lube, that attracts dust and junk to the moving parts.
Yeah, and don't use WD40
I need a guitar repair. The jack is fucked, and I'm a complete noob when it comes to fixing that shit. Somewhere around the north side of Melbs would be great. Suggestions?
Day bump.
Not sure about Northside but Anthony at Harvester guitars will do a good job. He is in Sunshine
hey guy

my bass guitar now only makes fuzzy noises and no actual bass sounds
:)
CMON

Hey :-)
The guys in the Bass Centre in South Melbz have looked after me in the past.
thank a lot dudes!
can any one recommend someone in Melbourne to have a look at my Jazzmaster? the G & B strings are sounding muted and buzzy the further down the frets you go, and now the high e is just completely muted/buzzy on all frets. i've tried changing strings, putting the buzzstop back on, etc.; no dice.
suggestions? (around Melbourne CBD or North preferably)
Sounds like you just need to raise the lower end of your guitar's bridge, find an allen-key to fit and turn clockwise till buzzing is gone.
Sounds like the truss rod may need adjusting

Anthony is good, he's in Sunshine at the moment but is looking at moving inner North in the the near future
I can do setups and live in thornbury. Pm me if you want me to have a look at it.
Dave Paul out in Balwyn is the best by far.
