Dear Venue Bookers

frigid star  said about 5 years ago  or at  4:38PM on Friday, June 15 2007 in chat

I know you're probably busy and inundated with shitwanks wanting to play there stupid little tunes, so I've never really been fussed by the fact that essentially none of you reply to any gig requests, but here be a hint:

DON'T FUCKING ADD ME TO YOUR EMAIL OUT LIST IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED REPLYING

Cheers fuckarses.

mulligan  said about 5 years ago:

aren't you playing soon?

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

Yep. Not one that I booked though.

mulligan  said about 5 years ago:

oh
ok
carry on

kabukiboy  said about 5 years ago:

are your stupid little tunes any good? - my email list is here - you have to add yourselves...

empra  said about 5 years ago:

Have you told them you don't want to be on their list?

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

No they're horrible and designed to be as such. This isn't a rant about not acquiring shows, that would be a little to self inclusive. I'm just not appreciative of the sudden influx to a new address.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

it's a bit unethical.

kabukiboy  said about 5 years ago:

cool! i like horrible music (so i've been told..)

you wanna play the pitz?

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

sigh.. Empra, this is an argument of which I've had many times. Did I ask to be inundated with there crud? no. Did they ask to be inundated with mine? Well yes, it be their job and all that.

megb  said about 5 years ago:

Dear venue bookers, donate to 3CR now! Give back to the community that supports you!

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

Kabuki, I asked you about a Pitz show when I caught you last weekend and you seemed keen. We're hopefully touring in August, will be in touch. Hoping to do the Cad factory as well.

kabukiboy  said about 5 years ago:

meg - getting on it now even though i'm in sydney

empra  said about 5 years ago:

Isn't it their job to promote shows and get people to gigs?

Fuck. Just ask to be taken off the goddamn list.

kabukiboy  said about 5 years ago:

sweet! geez, i'm good ;-) haven't been to the cad factory yet - never hear about their shows either.....

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

Isn't it their job to promote shows and get people to gigs?

Yes Empra this is also a part of there job and to be done in an ethical manner, not via the harvesting of emails from people they can't be fucked even simply stating a quick sprry, not interested to. Why should I need to ask, I shouldn't be on there in the first fucking place if they think that I'm not really the type of person they'd like into the venue. I can't play there but I can consume there?

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

Haha, you're even working when your asleep Kabuki :] I've never made it to Cad on my trips up either, but I met Dave and he seemed keen for an exploratory night.

Goal attack  said about 5 years ago:

Australian Spam Law, 2004 Don't know how much it's changed since then but wherever I've worked that's what we've stuck to.

empra  said about 5 years ago:

Good idea. Fuck 'em. Get them to pay a fine. Stupid no-gooders.

frigid star  said about 5 years ago:

Yah, I've read the legislation when I had a gripe with the Cherry Laneway festival thing. Cheers goalattack.

I've just had to send my third request to unsubscribe to the espy mailing list. Fuckers!

I understand that sometimes these things take time. But if they've got time to spam me, they've got time to maintain their mailing list and remove my name from it.

liamsnice  said about 2 years ago:

Surely there's bigger issues in your mail box???

austerity  said about 2 years ago:

why don't you just block their emails?

Goal attack  said about 2 years ago:

I've sent four unsubscribe notices to the espy this week. I should report the spammin cunce

Coz  said about 2 years ago:

There's thinkin'!

crash!  said about 2 years ago:

OR, join the mailers in question up to your or other mailing lists?

Brian O'Dwyer  said about 10 months ago:

ahem.

Just so ya'll know, it's totally fine to not want to book certain acts, there is nothing wrong with that.

What is wrong is not replying at all. All this does is make you look like a stuck up douche. Isn't it better to have bands say 'yeah we're not quite ready for that venue but they're great' instead of 'don't even bother with them assing cunts, they're too busy snorting their own'.

Just a thought.

rawr  said about 10 months ago:

agreed. it takes 2 seconds to reply ''sorry/no''. it saves the band a lot of stress and potentially wasted time, and saves the booker from getting annoying followup calls/emails and generally appearing to be a douche.

if you have a problem with being that upfront/honest, a white lie will do...just tell me you're fully booked. that's fine with me too.

eucalyptus  said about 10 months ago:

In my experience bands are far worse than bookers. I usually wait two days for a response, then move onto someone else, and if I get three no responses it wastes a whole week. Often bands have gotten back to me a week or two later saying 'lock it in', which is always too late. So in short if you get a booking request you should reply immediately with 'no thanks' or 'i'm interested, please hold the date'. Seems like common sense.

Brian O'Dwyer  said about 10 months ago:

Really? You must know some shit bands.

if you have a problem with being that upfront/honest, a white lie will do.

Actually don't agree with this at all. If you spin bullshit you're known as a bullshit artist.
I think a much better approach is to realise that you're not better than anyone else. Your job isn't that high paying and really without the bands you don't have one. I think it very quickly goes to peoples heads.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great bookers, I think there's really only a handful that need a good glassing.

crash!  said about 10 months ago:

At the end of the day if the act or bill you are pushing is hot, then bookers reply instantly. end of story. If your act or bill is shit, then bookers don't reply. End of thread.

rawr  said about 10 months ago:

yep. all the more reason to DIY.

mule  said about 10 months ago:

I generally have more annoying experiences with bookers than great ones. DIY/warehouses is way more enjoyable.

rawr  said about 10 months ago:

sydney is great like that. there aren't any pubs to play at anymore anyway, so the process is usually much more enjoyable.

TheBastard  said about 10 months ago:

What places do you play at in Sydney if not at the pub?

I don't understand

flukazoid  said about 10 months ago:

Allphones Arena, obvs!
