No, it’s not just another music festival. Described as “the ultimate mix-tape”, All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP) has developed a reputation as a boutique event that goes against the grain of the larger, more commercial festivals. And for the first time it’ll be making its way to Australia in January with none other than Nick Cave curating.
As expected, Cave has put together a line-up of local and international acts as interesting and eclectic as the man himself. Australian acts include proto punk pioneers The Saints, The Laughing Clowns, ex-Go Between Robert Forster, The Primitive Calculators, former Cave bandmate Rowland S Howard, as well as The Stabs, Bridezilla and The Necks.
Adding to the festival’s allure are its three venues. In Victoria, ATP will be held over two days at Mt Buller Ski Resort; in NSW, it’ll be held in conjunction with Sydney Festival on Cockatoo Island, a former prison and shipbuilding yard; and in Queensland, it’ll run over four days at The Powerhouse and the Brisbane Riverstage.
