Custard: ‘We’ve Got Nothing New’
News posted Wednesday, August 18 2010 at 08:00 AM.
Related: Dave Mccormack, Custard.
Following their confirmation in the first round of this year’s Meredith Music Festival this morning, M+N had a quick e-chat with Dave McCormack from comeback kings Custard, who are playing their first Meredith since 1997.
Have you guys played since that Q150 show?
Nope. I haven't even seen the rest of the band since walking off stage at Q150 last December. I think we better get together and run through some songs soon.
What have you been doing in the interim?
I've been out and about play gigs and promoting my new CD Little Murders.
Who's in the reformed band?
It’s the last Custard lineup: me, Matthew [Strong], Paul [Medew] and Glenn [Thompson]. This lineup recorded We Have The Technology and Loverama.
Will Meredith pave the way for a future tour?
Not really sure of any future plans. [It’s] one festival at a time for us I think.
Will we see a greatest hits set again? New songs?
Definitely the greatest hits set. We've got nothing new.
Anything special planned for Meredith's 20th?
I would like to bring along my 10-foot inflatable Santa, but I’m unsure if they’ll let me bring him on the plane.
Have you been to Meredith before?
I'm pretty sure Custard played Meredith in the late ’90s sometime [ed. it was 1997]. I don't remember much of it. I'm looking forward to checking out the vibe.

I think they played both 1997 (around 6pm Saturday) and 1998 (around 11pm Saturday after Girls Like That got them popular)
Hope there's some other shows announced.
i'd like some other shows, too.
gah. never could get over my dislike of that glenn dude. bring back danny!
not going to make it to meredith, i would like some/a melbourne show/s please.
The Q150 gig was pretty great.
There wasn't much by way of interaction between the band, had a bit of a Pixies feel in that regard. Sounded good and tight though. McCormack was doing this red and black outfit rockgod jumpy thing that felt a little off.
But the songs! The songs! Amazing!
Ahem.
I'd kill for a Melbourne side-show. Kill people til they're dead.
bdk - just go to dave's solo shows, always custard tunes dude
Headline should have been:
''Custard: 10-Foot Inflatable Santa''
soula - i've seen plenty of dave doing custard songs, but i want to see custard. i know its not going to compare to seeing them in their heyday, but i still wanna see it, dammit.
Just one Sydney show, that's all I ask.
i got really excited to see them on the Meredith line up... then i realised the band i was thinking of was Cake.
haha yeah i wasn't old enough to be in to these bands when they were 'happenin', and i confuse those two all the time
maybe i was old enough, but i was busy listening to cypress hill
I agree wid defoxus. Matthew Robert Strong!
And on the lead guitar, ladies and gentlemen, its Mr. Matthew Robert Strong!
Announce a sideshow, whydoncha.
yeah the only reason i would go is matthew!
any developments on sideshows???
Yeah!?!?!?
what happened to make him walk offstage at q150?
Has anyone got the Spaces By the Side of the Raod DVD? I am trying to find it but having real trouble I think it might be deleted. Anyone seen it anywhere?
*that would be Road
No but I'll take one take one too.
I just checked the link on my website that I've had up for ages to an online store that was selling the Spaces by the Side of the Road DVD... it is now saying that the DVD has been deleted.
Might want to keep an eye on ebay?
Nice site m_d. I have checked quite a few places and no luck so far. That will teach me - buy things when they are first released! So the search begins...

It looks awesome. Now I can't wait to break a leg skiing and spend 6 weeks in bed watching it.
