Blasko Bags A New Career?

If her music career ever falls in a heap – and that’s not likely to happen any time soon given her run of sold-out shows across the country – Sarah Blasko might find a new career as a fashion designer.
The Sydney pop chanteuse has collaborated with Brisbane-based company Biddy Bags to create a signature bag: a delicate evening clutch in quality Egyptian cotton with a hint of sparkle. (Or so we’re told.) Available in red or white and strictly limited to 100 items, the bags have been crafted by mature-age ladies and nannas, who receive the majority of profits from sales.
The collaboration has been in the works since 2008, after Biddy Bags founder Samantha Jockel sent Blasko a bag in the mail. “The truth is I never actually thought it would get to her but it did,” she says. “She loved the idea and we met up two weeks later. To have her support has been fantastic.”
Blasko winds up her national tour with three sold-out shows at Perth’s Astor Theatre this weekend.
