– Melbourne “ambient instrumentalists” All India Radio will play their first show in more than a year this month. Unveiling a new line-up, the band will launch their current album, The Silent Surf, at a matinee show at The Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on March 20. Released in late 2010, the album features the voice of Professor Don Gurnett (famous for his NASA “space sounds”) and a cameo by The Church’s Steve Kilbey. It’s available through Bandcamp. Supports for the launch are Cam Butler (Silver Ray, The Coralinas). Doors: 2pm. Tickets: $10.
– Eagle & The Worm will perform on a boat next month. The Melbourne country-rock collective will play aboard “Titanic the Third” as it makes its way around Melbourne’s Port Phillip bay on April 2. Other acts performing include North East Party House, Carnation and The Solomons, with a visual display by Neon Knights and DJs La and Kieran. Boat departs from Dockland at 6pm sharp. Tickets: $27 (plus booking fees) available through Moshtix.
– Where Were You At Lunch, the new outfit for Kid Sam’s Kishore Ryan, will continue their month-long, Thursday night residency at Yah Yah’s in Melbourne next week. The trio – which includes Ryan on drums, Peter Emptage on bass and Samaan Fieck on guitar – will play on Thursday (March 17) with supports from Oscar Vincente Slorach-Thorn and Marco Cher Gibard, Ghost Gums and Troy Naumoff. The band play a mix of songs “carefully composed by generating intervals and rhythms from sports statistics” and “spasmodic improvisations or cyclic linear compositions”. A debut album, produced by Nick Huggins, is on the way. All shows: $6. Doors: 9pm.
