Melbourne’s Witch Hats recently returned to the studio to record their second full-length album, the follow-up to debut LP Cellulite Soul and 2009 EP Solarium Down The Causeway.
Tentatively titled Enchantment Under The Sea Dance, it was recorded over seven days in mid-March at Head Gap Studios in the Melbourne suburb of Preston. US-born producer/engineer Casey Rice (The Dirty Three, Tortoise) manned the desks.
“The sound is probably somewhere in between our first album’s studio sound and our second EP [Solarium Down The Causeway’s] ratty warehouse sound,” bass player Ash Buscombe told M+N. “The album is more song focused then the noise from the past few recordings, but still packs the dirge in on most tracks.”
The album is expected to be out in the “coming few months”.

I've heard most of these tracks in progress... they sound great.
Fortunate enough to have been given a sneaky preview of this album, no longer titled Enchantment Under The Sea Dance.
Fucking fantastic album. Ash's quote above sums it up nicely. Not the same manic Birthday Party/Fall-esque sound that initially drew me to the band, this is something wonderfully different.
Think late night, beer soaked, dragged along the gravel and effortlessly tuneful. Can't wait to hear it on wax.
Cool. I look forward to that too...
Out today, I'll check what stores have it in stock at lunch.
CD's only at this stage.
Vinyl very soon.
Thank
