Red Riders Tweet Final Shows

Sydney’s soon-to-be-defunct Red Riders have taken to social networking site Twitter to announce their “last shows EVER”.

The band will play two consecutive gigs before calling it quits for good: June 17 at The Northcote Social Club in Melbourne and June 18 at Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney.

The four-piece last month announced their demise after eight “immensely fun years” together. Writing on their website, they said the band had “run its course” and they wanted to end things while they could “still stand proudly behind everything that we've made together”. Even 2009’s Drown In Colour?

Tickets for both shows go on sale tomorrow (May 3).

I was never really a proper fan of these guys, i liked them the couple times i saw them, but for some reason the fact that they havent been able to make this band into a proper job has kinda got me feeling really sad. why couldnt they have kept doing this and been really big? they had it all didnt they? it seemed like they did!
i mean if bands like 2 door cinema club can be rally big and tour the world, why do you think these guys didnt get to that point?
That song from one of their EPs should of set them on a world wide hit - 'Its Not Unusual' - i guess being from Australia can make it really hard, UK US bands can get a career out of one great song. or was their behind the scenes team not that good at their job?

I concur. Good band. Really good pop touch, good production and a sound that fitted in with the currents and young and good looking. Why aren't they bloody famous?!?

Zaphod  said about 2 years ago:

I think part of the reason they're not famous can be found in the timing of the tweets referred to in the article - almost the exact moment bin Laden's death began to break. There were an estimated 4000 tweets/second for the hour and a bit thereafter.

Yeah, I had them pegged for stardom the moment I heard that Slide in Next to Me song. Great live as well and nice guys from what I recall.
