Listen: Muscles Remixes Kylie

Muscles’ royal fever continues abated. Following an ode to Princess Beatrice’s pretzel-shaped headpiece (‘Princess Beatrice and her Royal Hat’)’, the electro oddity/human headline has taken another stab at the monarchy, remixing Australia’s own princess of pop Kylie.

Muscles’ “scorching” club remix of 'Put Your Hands Up' has been included on a limited, three-disc tour edition of Kylie’s most recent album Aphrodite, alongside other remixes by Denzal Park and Pete Hammond.

This isn’t the first time Muscles has had a stab at remixing an Australian pop diety. In 2009, his minimalist techno take on ‘I Love Pop Music’ by Ben Lee was rejected by Lee’s label, prompting this diatribe from his infamous interview with the singer himself.

“I realise that all these people who work at record labels are failed musicians," Muscles told Lee. "They’re wannabe rock stars. And I’m like, ‘We’re the rock stars. Maybe you should listen to us!’”

Muscles’ new double A-side single is due out through Modular on July 1.

Lee: But the thing is, it only became an issue because you needed the label in that case to cooperate. That’s the great thing about stepping outside of them and going, “Hey, fuck it! We’ve got MySpace now.” You’ve got [other] places to put your music … It takes the power away from labels when you can just have a direct connection with your fans.

Muscles: And even just me doing the remix, sending you a beat and a few basic lyrics and you writing that song, all in the space of 24 hours – that’s the future of the music industry right there.

Lee: It is, it is.

i think muscles should spend as long on his album as the avalanches spend on theirs

just in case

I think The Avalanches should hand over all their second album material to Muscles n' say ''here... do what you like with it and finish our album!''...

Then they could release it as an Avalanches album with ''special guest Muscles'' and tour Oz together double billed.

It'd be like two generations of Modular coming full circle.

...actually, it's not a bad idea!

then robert smith can sing on it

And Mess and Noise can do a story about The new Avalanches album, followed by a story about Muscles mixing the new Avalanches album, followed by a story about Robert Smith doing guest vocals on Muscles' mix of the new Avalanches album, followed by story about Electricsound's suggestion that Robert Smith does vocals on Muscles' mix of the new Avalanches album.

There are slightly fewer than 6,924,300,000 people worldwide who do not know nor care of Muscles existence. At any given moment these folk are both equally and blissfully unaware of whatever he choses to do with his life and are also totally unaffected by any decision he makes regarding his life. These are the most important facts about the life of Muscles.
