New Garage Mini-Fest In Bris

In the vein of the much-missed Flip Out and the recent Maggot Fest comes Flavours of Skuzz, an all-day garage/rock/lo-fi/no-wave/hardcore festival in Brisbane this Saturday (July 9).

The brainchild of Ben Salter (The Gin Club, The Wilson Pickers), Flavours of Skuzz will take place over 11 hours (4pm-3am) across three stages at Woodland Bar in the Fortitude Valley. Bands performing include Hoss and Brat Farrar from Melbourne; Straight Arrows, Jonny Romeo and the Gooch Palms from Sydney; The Meatbeaters from Adelaide; and local bands HITS, The Vee Bees, The Boondall Boys (ex-Onyas), Dick Nasty, Slug Guts, Blank Realm, Velociraptor, Undead Apes and Keep On Dancin's. Full line-up below.

Salter said the festival grew out of a desire to book Canberra “grog rock” four-piece The Vee Bees in Brisbane. “I asked a bunch of local garage/punk/whatever bands if they would play if I done a silly festival and whaddaya know they all said, ‘Yes.’”

The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Jubilee Hotel, but has been shifted due to a “set of unforeseen circumstances”. Tickets: $25 available via Oztix now.

I'm just trying to work out how you could do three stages at the Woodland Bar, or even two.

I guess the alleyways downstairs...

What time does the Tym's instore start tonight? Can't check facebook at work. More specifically, what time are Brat Farrar on?

Bummed out about the Apes vs Slugs clash! Probably the two bands I was most excited to see. Looking forward to tomorrow - I think all the bands I mainly want to see are local. Not that this is a bad thing. Haven't been to a big carhole shindig in ages so it should be fun.

hyperfuzz  said about 1 year ago:

Geordie at Tym's said that they can start making noise at 5, so Brat Farrar will be on then. 3-4 song sets per band, all in a row. Pumped for tomorrow!

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

I'll give you a beer if you don't start until about 20 past. (I don't finish work until 5)
