Touring News: The Adults, Henry Wagons, Khancoban, Sebadoh

– New Zealand supergroup The Adults will make their Australian debut in September. The band, which comprises Jon Toogood (Shihad), Shayne Carter (Dimmer, Straitjacket Fits) and Julia Deans (Fur Patrol), will perform in Sydney, Melbourne and at the BIGSOUND Live showcases in Brisbane. Initiated by Toogood during some downtime from Shihad last year, The Adults’ debut self-titled album features guest contributions from the likes of Ruban and Kody Neilson from the Mint Chicks and emcee Tiki Taane. It’ll be out August 19 through Warners Australia. The band’s live incarnation features Toogood, Carter and Deans, who swap instruments throughout the set. “Everyone fights over the bass,” Toogood said, “because the bass lines are especially fun to play.” Supports from Hobart’s The Scientists of Modern Music. Tickets via Oztix.

Thurs, Sep 1 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney, NSW
Fri, Sep 2 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne, VIC
Thurs, Sep 8 – BIGSOUND, Brisbane, QLD

– Australia just can’t seem to get enough of Henry Wagons – or maybe it's the other way around? With Wagons’ “most expansive tour yet” concluding at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne tomorrow night (July 16), their charismatic frontman has announced a string of solo performances in August. The gigs are pitched as an opportunity to visit the “more tender” moments of new album Rumble, Shake and Tumble, render full band favourites acoustically and to “recount tales of gluttony and misbehaviour from the band’s extensive national album tour”. After the tour, Wagons will spend a month in America, where he looks forward to eating “more hotdogs”. Supports from Gossling in solo mode (except Brisbane). Tickets on sale July 18 via the band’s website.

– Melbourne five-piece khancoban will tour their second full-length album, Arches Over The Sun, in August/September. Described as a departure from the band’s alt-country and folk-influenced sound, the album was produced by Nick Huggins (Mick Turner, Kid Sam), and mastered by Casey Rice (Tortoise, Dirty Three). It follows 2006’s self-titled mini-album and 2008’s Limbs May Fall. Arches Over The Sun is out August 12 through Departed Sounds/Other Tongues.

The Community Chest will open the first night of tour in Perth; Smudge will share the stage in Sydney and Brisbane; Lou Barlow’s recording companion Adam Harding will play both Melbourne shows; while Laura Imbruglia will open the sold out first Melbourne show. Sebadoh will be playing songs from their ’90s classics Bakesale and Harmacy. Tickets on sale now.
