Bon Scott, Hutchence Biopics In The Works

Let the casting predictions begin – biopics about Australian rock icons Michael Hutchence and Bon Scott are reportedly in the works.
Government funding body Screen Australia has announced single-draft development funding for Bon Scott, a feature about the legendary AC/DC frontman by writer Sophie Edelstein, director Eddie Martin and producer Lizzette Atkins; and Michael, a biopic about “another Australian rock legend” (which may or may not be Michael Hutchence) from writer/director Richard Lowenstein. Lowenstein, of course, is the director of Dogs In Space, which starred Hutchence as Sam, a character based on Ears frontman Sam Sejavka.
Here’s a synopsis: “At the height of his internationally renowned career, a sudden blow to the head robs the famously sensual rock star of two of his most cherished senses. A series of personal battles follows, ending tragically with his death at the age of 37 the night before embarking on a world tour.”
Both biopics are still in the early stages of development, but the funding announcement will surely have tongues wagging about who’ll be cast as leads. Melbourne rock singer Nick Barker recently played Bon Scott in a theatrical production about the singer’s life, while J.D. Fortune, Terence Trent D’Arby and Jon Stevens have all impersonated Hutchence with varying degrees of
