AiH, AVS In Line For J Awards

An album we described as a “one-note act making hay while the sun still shines on their blissfully brainless patch of land” has been nominated for a J Award for Australian Album of the Year.

The Experiment by divisive Sydney trio Art Vs. Science is among three J Award nominees revealed by our national youth broadcaster today (August 4). The others are Moment Bends by Architecture in Helsinki and The Life of Riley by Perth emcee Drapht. The former was included among the best releases of 2011 so far in our Mid-Year Report, with reviewer Shaun Prescott describing it as “bold, unashamedly sincere, celebratory and thoughtful, nuanced and heartfelt”.

Albums were selected for their “creativity”, “musicianship” and “contribution to Australian music” by triple j’s music director, program director and presenters.

Past J Award winners have included Wolfmother (2005), Hilltop Hoods (2006), The Panics (2007), The Presets (2008), Sarah Blasko (2009), Tame Impala (2010). More nominees, including those for Australian Music Video of the Year and Unearthed Artist of the Year, will be revealed over the coming months, with the winners announced in November, during triple j’s Ausmusic Month.
