M+N Lunchbox #12: The Panics

M+N has something very special planned for its 12th Lunchbox: an intimate, free performance by The Panics in Melbourne.
The Perth-born five-piece will play songs from their fourth album Rain On The Humming Wire at The Workers Club in Fitzroy (on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD), on August 26, 1pm.
Written on one side of the Atlantic (Salford, England) and recorded on the other (Woodstock, New York), the album follows 2007’s ARIA-winning Cruel Guards, which was recently named among triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time. Here’s how we described it: “Breaking away from the divisive grandiloquence of the orchestral additions of Cruel Guards, The Panics have returned to the fragile, sparse songwriting that made them a local staple.” First single ‘Majesty’ is streaming here.
The Workers was the site of our last Lunchbox gig in July with The Gin Club’s Ben Salter. As always, the performance will be recorded for later consumption on M+N TV. There’ll also be a sausage sizzle and cheap beers on the day.
Past Lunchbox acts have included Henry Wagons, Adalita, Gareth Liddiard, Pikelet and Otouto. Check out photos, videos and news about upcoming events at our dedicated Lunchbox page.

Thats rather big news..
HUGE!
I heard a new song of theirs and it sounded remarkably like Simply Red, only a little safer and less edgy.

Worst review/comment on their material EVER!
Excellent news.
It'll be nice for it to be a full band again — the solo singer-songwriter types haven't attracted me at all. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Good move mixing it up a bit!
Not a fan, but good on them.

Is this a joke?
I had fun playing with my friends dog at the side door while they were playing. And boy, was that sausage sandwich massive.
Oh yeah, and the band played pretty good.
Great turnout. Great band. Great day. Pics and vid up next week.
