Not for the first time, a Fabulous Diamonds album cover has been used to promote a hair removal business.
The cover of the band’s 2008 album 7 Songs, which was named among our best and worst covers of the year, has reportedly been used without permission for an advertisement by Evolution Laser Clinic in the Sydney suburb of Five Dock.
The ad was spotted by M+N user migamiga in a recent issue of Ciao Magazine, a free street rag based in Sydney’s inner-west. It’s accompanied by a narrative about a guy named Daniel whose girlfriend deserts him in the summer. “If only Daniel could have Lisa all year round,” it reads. “With Evolution Laser he can.”
The photograph was snapped by Karl Scullin (aka Melbourne musician Kes). It was reportedly used in similar campaign run without permission in a Newcastle paper last year.
Both Scullin and Fabulous Diamonds declined to comment.
