After three years and four drummers, Sydney party starters Philadelphia Grand Jury are no more.
The band announced their split an hour ago via Facebook: “After years of touring together, recording together, working together and living together, we've decided we need our own space. Big, big thanks to everyone who has supported us and given us the opportunity to have what is pretty much a dream existence. Most of all, thanks to all the drummers that have put up with us both.”
Formed by childhood friends Simon “Berkfinger” Berckelman and Joel Beeson (aka MC Bad Genius), with a revolving cast of drummers including I Heart Hiroshima’s Susie Patten, Art vs Science’s Dan W Sweat and 50-something American session guy Calvin Welch, the band released debut album Hope Is For Hopers in 2009. They packed their bags for the not-so bright lights of Europe shortly after, but have been on hiatus since March of this year.
They leave behind a legacy of party anthems, broken pianos and memorable quotes including “Britain’s really broken” and “We played with Little Red and they were jerks”. Vale.
