Golden Plains Announces Keynote Speaker

Organisers of Golden Plains in Meredith, Victoria, have unveiled their keynote speaker for this weekend’s event.

Acclaimed Melbourne author and playwright Barry Dickins – a Premier’s Literary Award winner, who once spent three hours in the presence of Johnny Cash – will deliver a speech on, “Why Make Art”, to a zombiefied Supernatural Amphitheatre at 10am on day two (March 11).

Organiser Aunty Meredith: “He has agreed that ‘Why Make Art?’ is a good topic, and he’ll be doing something about that topic for about 15 minutes at 10am Sunday morning in the now-traditional spot. We asked him how he’d like to be introduced, and he said either ‘the world’s oldest English teacher’ or ‘inconquerable’.”

Meanwhile, the all-important forecast for this weekend predicts minimal rainfall on both days. Phew!

Acts performing include CHIC, Roky Erickson, Grammy winner Bon Iver™, Wild Flag, Real Estate, Urge Overkill, Black Lips and Total Control. Full line-up and set times here.

I look forward to sleeping in and then going ''shit'' and running down the hill and catching the last 2 minutes and 47 seconds of this.

I look forward to laying around camp going: 'is that a band yet, or just the speaker?', 'who's the speaker this year?', 'you reckon it'd be any good', 'eeerggghhhhhh' and then missing it.
