Video Premiere: The Laurels ‘Changing The Timeline’

The collision of Brent “Spod” Griffin and Sydney psych quartet The Laurels has spawned a clip that melds the aesthetic of a taped-from-TV Rage artefact circa the ’90s with the abyss-fixated mindfuck of David Cronenberg's Videodrome. Like other recent clips directed by Griffin, it’s weird and creative in a way that intuitively services and enhances the song.

As for the song itself? ‘Changing the Timeline’ is as tense and antsy as it is heavily addled, with plenty of slide guitar highlighted in the clip’s sporadic peep shows. The reality-bending three-minute single comes from The Laurels’ debut album Plains, out July 13 on Rice is Nice, and is available digitally from the label. Plains follows last year’s Mesozoic EP and reunites the band with producer Liam Judson (Belles Will Ring, Cloud Control).

The Laurels have recently toured the country with Pond and – following shows with Wooden Shjips, Swervedriver, Low and Tame Impala – more tour dates will be announced soon. In the meantime, put this on repeat and crank the volume.
