“Hi, I’m Kimbra. And one day I’d love to be a pop star.”
Yes, that’s the Kimbra Johnson, aged 11, reinforcing the power of positive thinking in a clip recently unearthed by NZ on Screen and posted to YouTube.
Aired on New Zealand kids TV show What Now, the video shows an uber-confident Kimbra (“I sing a lot – and I’ve written heaps of my own songs!”) in the studio, recording vocals for her first song ‘Smile’. It follows some recently uncovered footage of a Kimbra at 15, two years before she made the move to Melbourne (see below).
Kimbra’s debut album Vows last month debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200. It’s currently sitting at #95.

Great news!
ONYA
As I posted in the other thread, that's so cute. What an adorable little kid she was.
cute overload
I wonder what she said when her Dad stopped giving her pocket money
...
So she's not a robot. Guess I just lost 20 bucks.
bonus shots of the inside of real groovy, yeah.
They should quit it with the ''Kylie 2.0'' trappings though.
who would have known she was in the game from such an early age...
cute as hell though.
i look forward to hearing her thoughts on the matter.
I always thought Kimbra would have been a stage name
This is awesome. I can remember being faintly envious of kids that ended up being profiled on What Now like this.
Can someone please make a ghey giff of 3.12 in the first video? Pleeeeeease.
You'd think after all this time she'd have written a decent tune
Looking forward to updates ''Kimbra at 28'' and ''Kimbra at 36''
There is an Astroboy episode where they fooled a robot into believing it was a human by disposing of the slightly younger bodies each month.
