Conrad Standish and Tom Carlyon, both formerly of rock-noir outfit Devastations, have returned under an eponymous new guise.
After several years in London, the pair have collaborated on a new track, ‘Critics Multiply’, which they’ve released under the moniker Standish/Carlyon. Eerily atmospheric and dripping with minimalist Euro cool, it’s the first taste of forthcoming debut Deleted Scenes, which will be out this year through new label, Melbourne-via-Perth imprint Chapter Music.
Forming in Melbourne in 2002, The Devastations released three albums, including the Australian Music Prize nominated Coal (2006) and Yes, U, our album of the year for 2007, before relocating to Europe.
Standish/Carlyon celebrate their return with a Tuesday night residency at The Toff In Town in Melbourne: July 3 with Fabulous Diamonds and DJ People; July 10 with Joe McKee and DJ Shags; July 17 with Zanzibar Chanel and DJ Roman Wafers; July 24 with Kangaroo Skull and Forces DJs; and July 31 with Superstar and New War DJs.

This promises to be great. Love Tom Carlyon's guitar playing! Hope he gets to sing some on this too.
Yeah I'm pumped for this release too. Bummed I can't make any of the shows though...
never been a fan of the devastations, but i quite like that track.
everything comes from something.
i reckon it's great. Love the raindrop sample
'yes, u' already had a pretty heavy htrk influence/presence. so it isn't surprising.
Critics become fewer.
solid show at The Toff last night! Great sound and concept. Dreamy, minimalist pop of the best calibre. Well worth checking out. My prediction is that the last Tuesday will be a full house.
Looking forward to next week with Joe McKee.
damn, missed the first one

Thanks Tiger Tiger! Appreciate that.
Tonight! Kangaroo Skull play at 8:45, S/C shortly thereafter. Do it.
i still haven't made it in, though superstar were always the priority. crunch time next week.
come tonight and next week!
good stuff
Loved, loved, loved this show last night and will definitely be returning for the final show next week. Confused about the girl sitting on the stage the whole time doing her make-up and nails though.
finally got to this last night. after not liking the first track, which kinda came off as straight up devastations sans-drums, was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the set. critics multiply was great, despite the bass dropping out part-way through. i guess they've retained that sophistication (whatever that means in a musical context... 'adult' appeal?), but it's mostly done with less of the pomp and posturing that turned me off the devs.
superstar were another thing entirely. same tempos, but more introverted, subtle, entrancing and just beautiful. possibly my fav time seeing them. esther's voice was so fucking perfect on the last track. reminded me so much of something i just can't place and it's been bugging the shit out of me since.
the crowd was pretty big for a tuesday night too. nice to be back in that room. can't help but love the toff on nights like these.
