Listen: New Boomgates ‘Whispering And Singing’

Perhaps it’s just us but Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s Brendan Huntley sounds a lot like Paul Kelly on ‘Whispering and Singing’, the new single from Melbourne indie “supergroup” Boomgates.

The countrified track, which features shared vocals from Dick Diver’s Steph Hughes and some vivid lyrics about sold houses and freight trains, is the first taste of debut album Double Natural (out through Bedroom Suck Records/Fuse Music on August 24).

Starting as a “loose Thursday evening sing and strum on the couch”, the five-piece have cemented themselves as a band proper, releasing a double A-side single last year and playing halftime at the Reclink Community Cup on Sunday (a slot occupied by Tumbleweed last year). Photos here.

This is is great! inda weird to hear Brendan not on edge, but it's pretty bloody cool.

Reckon the Bitch Prefect album Bedroom Suck just announced will be the real stand-out of all those new announcements though.

its a great song, and they have '' cemented themselves as a band proper'' so there's no need to reference they're previous or other band's, is there.

memphis  said about 10 months ago:

only if you want to keep using the ''supergroup'' tag, which is completely overused anyway
