Owners Of Melbourne’s Caravan Club Expand

Melbourne’s oft-neglected southside of the river will get a new venue come August.

The Flying Saucer in Elsternwick is the initiative of the team behind the Caravan Club in Oakleigh and its corresponding the Carnival of Suburbia festival. It’ll launch with Joe Camilleri’s reunited The Revelators on August 5.

Features of the venue include an art deco interior, a bluestone fireplace and a kitchen, with organisers hoping to fill the dinner-and-a-show void left by the Continental in Prahran. They promise “an exciting and diverse program of contemporary music, cabaret, spoken word, Burlesque, comedy and musical theatre”.

The Flying Saucer will be located in a “thriving cultural precinct” near Elsternwick Station and Elsternwick Park, where the Community Cup is held annually.

I can walk home from this. Gigs not on the same time as the Caravan at this stage.

I am not an official spokesperson of the Caravan/Flying Saucer Clubs and do not have anything to do with booking the gigs. I do take photos at the Caravan though.
