For the first time in its 17-year history, Homebake is being headlined by an international band – and it’s none other than New York’s Blondie, who have been granted “honorary Homebake visas” for 2012.
Other bands on the bill include Hilltop Hoods, “comedian, actor, singer, pianist, writer and composer” Tim Minchin, Birds of Tokyo, The Saints (minus Ed Kuepper), Something For Kate, The Bamboos, Tim Rogers (with full band and special guests), Sonicanimation and a bunch of acts that have just played Splendour In The Grass including Kimbra, Angus Stone, San Cisco, Emma Louise, Pond, Ball Park Music, Seekae, DZ Deathrays and Husky. Full line-up below.
Homebake will take place on December 8 at The Domain imn Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden. Tickets on sale for $99 plus booking fees on August 16, 9am

with that line up they really did need an international. at least the saints are playing...but minus ed kuepper? lame!
Surely anyone that wanted to see ''heritage'' Blondie saw them in 2008 or 2010 ?
Sydney can have it
Woo, Old Man Bailey and his Saxophonist
I feel embarrassed and quite ashamed to have read this.
But I have one question, is that The 'With Which to Love You' Bamboos?
Who the fark is Sam Sparro?
He is that guy with really persuasive mgt and PR team yeah?
A comedian as second headliner is a little off for me. Nowhere near the adventurousness of last year's line-up.
I feel i'm so out of the loop these days i just assume these sorts of acts are just played on JJJ and have full page ads in street press. I've stopped tuning in to either of those things.
according to his wikipedia his genre is ''Electro-funk, funk, electro-pop, soul''...which explains it really.
Its the law of diminishing returns, the music scene err industry has fractured to such a point, and the labels/radio combo is in such a cost saving/downward spiral, there's really no local acts of the stature required to headline a festival of this size anymore. It's easier and better to promote and build 1/2 a dozen reality tv show artists and get em to do one album each then to let a band/artist build up a fan base over time and reach the point they can be considered big enough to headline something like homebake.
Welcome to the post-powderfinger world. In some ways its glorious, in others, well it's this.
Maybe this is a conscious decision by Homebake to re-position itself as the ''family friendly'' alternative summer festival by appealing to the Spicks and Specks audience.
yeah that's bang on. But surely Homebake has been past it's day for a a while now.
Tim Minchin?!! Ugh...not that I've ever seriously contemplated going to Homebake. Except that year Beasts of Bourbon played.
Gee I never heard call me before. Lulz.
I really dislike Tim minchin. He's awful.
He had that really annoying ''Black & Gold'' song, right?
Pretty much the worst line-up I've ever seen. Shut it down.
EMI Australia's golden boy. Very commercial.
Voxfuzz, no it's the 'I Got Burned'/soul/funk Bamboos. They're not bad but I'd much rather see Greg Hitchcock and Craig Hallsworth get back together again to play all that Citadel / Rarer than Rocking Horse Shit material live.
Only for as long as people are deluded enough to think that the old model and scale will still work. We'll get past it, eventually
Re post powderfinger world
I'm reading Billy Thorpes books just about finishing number 2 and yeah it's all there all as we know it. The sociological background that gave rise to the majors and the way it was. It ain't there any more. It's Tv and foxtel and whatnot. Reality tv etc
But that's not to say that the sociological conditions won't rise again. It did with nirvana.
Thanks Gene. Now let us never talk of this filth again.
They'll have to, its not going back.
The upsides of the current state way outweigh the downsides (imho) so many interesting things to listen to and experience and its never been easier to get your hands on. The base is broadening at the expense of the the pointy end of the market, and that's great.
I really dislike Tim minchin. He's awful.
YES. But everyone seems to think he is a genius.....why? I find him cringingly unfunny. Like a year 12 assembly performance.
Pretty much spot on. Yep. Terrible.
If the govt want to make the sociological conditions for the pointy end of the rock music market happen. All they have to do is reintroduce conscription cut the dole and cut funding to universities and a few other things..and you'll soon see a band rise and be the new
As dad used to say. Recession/depression is good for musicians.
That lineup looks rubbish to me
Fakebake
I'm happy for these shitty festivals to continue. If people are happy to spend hard earned cash on attending this, then there will be less of a 'dickhead' factor at other quality festivals.
I'd love to see S4K again some time soon. It's been a long time.
How can I love Chris' solo work so much and yet still hate his effectively solo work that he's released under the Saints name???
(Except for the Spit The Blues Out album which was kinda awesome.)
Tim Minchin can choke on a rancid turd
^^^
How confusing.
