Violent Soho Sign New Deal, Plan Album #3

Brisbane’s Violent Soho – the band that once told us they weren’t “forming a grunge revival” – have signed a new record deal, revealing tentative plans for a third album.

The band, who were famously snapped up by Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! Label in 2009, have now joined the likes of DZ Deathrays, Bleeding Knees Club and Snakadaktal Club at fledgling Melbourne indie I Oh You. The deal will see the release of a 7” later this year, featuring new tracks ‘Tinderbox’ and ‘Neighbour Neighbour’, which will be recorded by Lindsay Gravina at Melbourne’s Birdland Studio.

I Oh You’s Johann Ponniah said he first heard of Violent Soho in the back of a tour van with Howl (now Hunting Grounds), Yacht Club DJs & DZ Deathrays. “I still remember Shane from DZ barking down my ear about all the awesome stuff Violent Soho were doing in NYC,” he said. “Since that point the I Oh You household have followed Violent Soho intently, always looking up to them and admiring the passion and dedication they showed for music.”

Violent Soho have spent most of the year bunkered down in Brisbane, writing demos for their third LP, which is planned for a 2013 release. It’s the follow-up to 2010’s self-titled second album, which was recorded with Gil Norton (The Triffids, The Pixies) in Rockfield, Wales. Track by track here.
