– Melbourne’s carefree anthem dispensers Loon Lake have announced a third hometown launch date for their Thirty Three EP. One has already sold out, as has the Adelaide launch. With the lip-sync-happy clip for their latest single ‘Cherry Lips’ making the rounds as we speak, the band are giving away one song from the EP each week leading up to its release. Supports on the launch tour are Brisbane’s Cub Scouts and Sydney’s Glass Towers.

– By no means a prolific live performer, Paddy Mann will soon take Grand Salvo’s On Rotation sixth album Slay Me In My Sleep on the road for three dates, including an ambitious ‘Large Ensemble’ for the Melbourne launch that will feature around 15 players. That includes saxophones, piano, percussion, clarinet, a choir and possibly the recorders that figure so prominently on the album.

– Brisbane’s self-described “lemon pop” quartet Go Violets call themselves fans of “laundromats, golden Bermuda tans and Leonardo DiCaprio.” They’re also fans of early-1990s jangle champs Tiger Trap, from the sound of their new single ‘Teenager’ and their previous material. Having recorded all of the above with Cameron Smith at his Incremental Studios (Nikko, No Anchor), the band start their single tour for ‘Teenager’ in their hometown’s Black Bear Lodge tonight (Aug. 9) before heading to Melbourne for stops at Yah Yah’s (Aug. 10) and Gasometer (Aug. 11). Brisbane’s Jeremy Neale will support them on the first and third dates.
– Sydney’s Johnny Casino is hitting the road with his Spanish backing band as Johnny Casino y Los Secretos. The occasion? A new 2x7” called ‘Now is the Time’ on Melbourne label Off The Hip. See below for dates, as well as video of the man covering Big Star’s immortal ‘Thirteen’ in Spain (obviously).
