Breaking: ATP Confirms Aus Return

All Tomorrow’s Parties will make its long awaited return to Australia in February under the “I’ll Be Your Mirror” guise.

Curated by The Drones, the event will take place over two days, not at Mt Buller as rumoured, but at the Westgate Entertainment Centre and Grand Star Reception in Altona in Melbourne. The bill (so far) includes:

My Bloody Valentine (first Aus show in two decades)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (debut Aus show)
Swans
The Dead C
HTRK
Thee Oh Sees
Sleepy Sun
Standish Carlyon
The Drones
Beasts Of Bourbon (original line-up)
Einstürzende Neubauten
Lost Animal
Harmony
Cam Butler & The Shadows Of Love

Rumours of All Tomorrow’s Parties’ Australian return began circling in April following a Triple R interview with founders Barry Hogan and Deborah Higgins. Speaking to presenter Rose Callaghan, the pair said a return was “never off the table”, but would only happen if the demand was there. “We’re always thinking about how it’s going to return,” said Higgins. “It’s never off the table, but we really need to make sure that we would get the numbers, before we embarked on it again.”

The rumour mill began turning once more when Spencer P Jones from the Beasts of Bourbon let the cat out of the bag at a gig at Yah Yahs in Melbourne in July.

ATP, a worldwide phenomenon, took place only once in Australia – at Mt Buller, Sydney’s Cockatoo Island and Brisbane’s Riverstage – in 2009. Curated by Nick Cave, it featured performances by The Saints, The Laughing Clowns, The Dirty Three, Robert Forster, The Primitive Calculators, the late Rowland S Howard, The Stabs, Bridezilla and The Necks.

"I'll Be Your Mirror"' will be spread out over two venues in one complex in Altona, about 13 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. There will be two stages, a cinema, art exhibition and a food court. Tickets are $250 (plus booking fees) for a two-day pass, or $135 (plus booking fees) for a single day. They go on sale this Monday, 9am, via the ATP website.

UPDATE 14/8: Saturday passes to ATP’s "I’ll Be Your Mirror" Melbourne are completely sold out. Two-day and Sunday passes selling fast. Buy tickets here.

Acting as sister events to the ATP Festivals which usually take place in holiday resorts, I'll Be Your Mirror is a series of artist curated music, film and art events taking place in cities

Incredible lineup!!

From the Age article:
''[Einsturzende] Neubauten was one I didn't think we'd get,'' Liddiard says of the German industrial rock pioneers who, coincidentally, were last here in the same year as Irish shoegaze/sensory assaulting pioneers My Bloody Valentine, 1991, playing Collingwood Town Hall and the Prince of Wales respectively.

Didn't Neubauten play at the Old Greek Theatre? Did they do a Town Hall gig too?

Holding this on the inside for the past few weeks has been the hardest thing ever. Can't wait, going to be super.

Everybody start booking your boutique accommodation!

Hotel Quest looks pretty good!

Oh look! A-Garden-Hide-Away in Werribee still has a vacancy (you!)...

Little River Bed and Breakfast - looking fabulous!!

Oh my GOD Carter Cottages Hello!

Somerset Cottage, got my eye on you!

Spectacular views Werribee South Caravan Park!

Love the convenience and great facilities at Altona Gate shopping centre!

Even the Council Chambers are stunning (though you can't see the gorgeous dome structure to the left)... oh Altona, you old dog!

Good on the organisers for supporting an already very vibrant Live Music Culture!

Little known fact - Altona is actually one of the most diverse suburbs in the whole world!

Oh Brother! Great Line Up!

Cool, can't wait to see you guys there!! This is gonna be the best gigs ever, I am just speechless. Don't know much of these bands but I will YouTube them soon, my friend said this was all ''very Berlin'' and ''a bit smacky'' but she is prolly just still trippin from the fumes of the free manicure we got this afternoon!! See you there with thickshakes!!

well reading that email that came out from ATP today, it looks like if you have a return ticket you need to be ready on the bus at 11.30pm. but if you have a single ticket coming back to the city from ATP, you will come back when the event finishes (around 1am)

Midday start is great. Means I can have the biggest and greasiest of breakfasts in Fitzroy. Any chats live in da hood?

ex_king_john  said about 4 months ago:

mrmagoo I now read it as the bus leaving from the city in the morning at 11.30am sharp but both types of tickets are returning to the city after the event finishes. Badly paragraphed communication.

But what if we don't want to wait around till 12.30am and see Oren. I gotta get a 67 connection in town and don't feel like getting home at 2.30 or whenever on the last tram.

TimChuma  said about 4 months ago:

No 414 bus service on Sunday.

ah right, well that makes a little more sense!

Might be easier to get the bus/taxi from Foot-is-gray than Newport.

national_highway_31  said about 4 months ago:

I don't get why the mood on this has dampened a bit. The lineup was amazing when it was first announced, and the lineup is still amazing! This will be one of the greatest gigs Melbourne has every seen, so sooks should quit whinging!

FrankieTeardrop  said about 4 months ago:

Yep. No 414 bus on Sunday. There's the 232 bus though, which goes from the Vic Markets to Altona Gate Shopping Centre, via the city, South Melbourne and the Westgate. From there it's a 1.5km hike. That should clear up the hangover from the previous night.

tugboat  said about 4 months ago:

Yep. the 232 take you right to Toyota factory, which is cross the road. It doesn't run often and stop very early though.

MelonHCST  said about 4 months ago:

Kinda happy Sunday isn't too busy considering how full on Saturday is. Just picked up my ticket from the post office.

TimChuma  said about 4 months ago:

Might need to take a Melways with me just to make sure. I am not sure if the 232 runs past the Toyota factory on Sundays.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 4 months ago:

Correct, on Sundays it keeps going down Millers Rd instead.

TimChuma  said about 4 months ago:

I used to walk further than that down Bell St to get redacted. Just get a pickup truck and hang off the side of it 26 miles until we get heaven

kuroneko  said about 4 months ago:

Just get the free shuttle bus to the venue site from Newport station.

''Train: Whilst usually you would take either the Williamstown or Werribee line trains to Newport Train Station, next weekend there is a replacement bus service on this line. You can catch a train replacement bus service to Newport Station from Flinders Street, Southern Cross, North Melbourne, South Kensington, Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville, Spotswood and Williamstown. There will be a limited free shuttle bus operating from Newport Station to the venue and back during festival opening hours. It takes approximately 15 minutes for the shuttle to get to the venue from the train station.''

fark...

I might ride. 20mins from yarraville.
where can I safely lock the bike though?

Also, where can I buy Hearos hifi earplug (to protect my hearing) in Melbourne?

GrantleyBuffalo  said about 4 months ago:

I'm bringing a dozen sets of earplugs, tugs. Come boo New War with me and I'll sort you.

steveholt  said about 4 months ago:

Everyone get there tickets then?

tugboat  said about 4 months ago:

I have a thing to pick up my ticket at post office.;
