What: Night Sky by Sophie Hutchings

When: August 31 through Preservation

Key notes: Second album for Sydney pianist, after 2010’s “soundtrack to languid and dissatisfied rainy days” Becalmed, which got listed in MOJO’s top five independent releases of that year. Another collaboration with The Necks engineer Tim Whitten. Piano now accompanied by harmonium, strings, percussion, woodwind and “vocal ambience.” Aside from the latter, though, another instrumental album from Hutchings. Heralded by the increasingly bustling and beautifully eerie ‘Between Earth and Sky’, as heard below.

From the presser: “Subtly playful within the direct and emotive candour of her style, making for an open and surprising journey throughout.”

This CD is out now. I'm loving it. It's a shame there isn't a chat listed in the credits that may have been here trying to promote this thing. Oh wait, there is! Where the hell has he been?
