Forthcoming - Good Heavens

News posted Monday, August 13 2012 at 11:00 AM.
Related: Wolfmother, Theredsunband, Good Heavens.

What: Strange Dreams by Good Heavens

When: August 17 through Rice Is Nice

Key notes: First album from newfound Sydney trio of singer-guitarist Sarah Kelly (theredsunband) and keyboardist/bassist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett (both ex-Wolfmother). Following her former band’s 2009 split, Kelly devoted herself to songwriting and demoing. In an unusual twist, Sydney label Rice Is Nice matched her with Heskett as a potential collaborator and Ross came on board from there. Admitted influences on Strange Dreams range from The Beatles to The Black Angels. Lead single ‘It’s Not Easy Being Mean’ is an alt-rock beast straight from the ’90s, while other songs are more coagulated and darkly psychedelic. Free album launch at Sydney's The Lansdowne this Friday (Aug. 17).

From the presser: “From the first heartbeat-like pulses of the guitar on the opening track, it drifts in and out of altered states, reflecting the trio’s shared obsession with psychedelia … a synthesis of ethereal dream-pop with the brute force of acid rock.”

Wanted to like this album... but feels really bland so far. Will give it some more spins...

More spins didn't make me feel any different from your initial reaction.
