Forthcoming: Oh Mercy

News posted Friday, August 17 2012 at 03:00 PM.
Related: Oh Mercy.

What: Deep Heat by Oh Mercy.

When: August 24 through EMI. Pre-orders here.

Key notes: Third album for the Melbourne-based outfit fronted by Alexander Gow. Follows last year’s Great Barrier Grief, which came in at #28 in our annual Critics Poll. Recorded at the Family Farm studio just outside Portland with former Gerling member Burke Reid (Jack Ladder, The Drones). Keys, sax and flute by US musician and producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). Features cover art by the late Melbourne photographer Rennie Ellis.

From the presser: “From the Roxy Music-esque swagger of ‘My Man’ (the first song Gow has ever written that wasn’t autobiographical) to pulsating first single Drums (the product of a heavy Jorge Ben binge), ‘Deep Heat’ is modern, forward-thinking pop; a colourful mix of styles all held together by a singular groove.”

Tracklisting:

Deep Heat
Rebel Beats
My Man
Fever
Pilgrim's Blues
Europa
Suffocated
Still Making Me Pay
