Avalanches Track Debuting Today?

What's a discussion of The Avalanches if it's not filled with equal parts speculation, anticipation, skepticism and fatigue? We've been toyed with before, but does the decade-plus wait for new material end today?

Maaaaaybe. Yesterday the band tweeted “ok lets do this. trax coming tommorow” to rumoured collaborator Rosalinda Ruiz, who responded with "yezzir. we're ready for round 2."

As long as we're reading tea leaves, this could mean there's a new track about to be unveiled or – a lot more likely – The Avalanches are sending Ruiz new tracks to work on in their ongoing collaboration (and teasing us yet again). But given how much time has already been put into watching for any and all signs of a follow-up to 2000's defining Since I Left You, there's going to be a lot of eyeballs trained on that Twitter account today.

I guess I was too young/dumb/full of chum to care about the first album when it came out; why was it a big deal again?

k2  said about 9 months ago:

Listen to it, make up your own mind.

hyperfuzz  said about 9 months ago:

I heard the singles when it came out (I was 15) and didn't like them. Listened to the LP recently; not fussed. Was wondering if some sort of historical context helped.

k2  said about 9 months ago:

I think it's pretty timeless actually, since it's constructed from history anyway.

3500 vinyl samples on the one album, all patched together and interwoven into something that was a pretty cool party album. Still reckon it was hyped more for the methodology than the end result.

Just as the mythology behind this LP will probably define it, I guess

ghoti-max  said about 9 months ago:

yeah, most likely

Might as well make some bullshit up for one's next press release. ''Constructed on a hacked Amiga running Max/MSP, plugged into wall sockets in 64 airport terminals across the world.''

''el producto'' still stands the test of time

blacklight  said about 9 months ago:

Is there any other promo photo of the band? Saw Seltmann at the airport the other day and nowadays he looks a bit like Garth from Wayne's World.

after 4pm... I guess this isn't happening.

isn't it ''life on E! whee!''? anyway, the best lyric is ''backflip kicks legs like machetes''

whatwhat  said about 9 months ago:

in an interview with jonti in the latest apra magazine he states that the best track he has ever worked on was for a track on the Avalanches new album...so i look forward to hearing that.

Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film, ''The Never-Ending Story''
